Wasn't The Point of Tariffs to Make Companies Open Factories Here?

Wasn't The Point of Tariffs to Make Companies Open Factories Here?

Nope. It was to level the international trade playing field by incentivizing countries to lower their tariffs on our goods to equal levels. If they refuse to do so, one of the benefits would be an increase in US manufacturing.

Our nation began as an international trading nation ... "Yankee Trader" ~"Clipper Ships", ~ Etc.
So? That does not mean that that is the way things should be.

It's like I said, why do Americans have to trade internationally? Nobody has explained this. And "that's the way we've always done it" doesn't cut it. You think it does, though.

Sorry your K-12 'Education' failed to teach you such.

Try remedial, make-up learning, ....
I am sorry but I don't understand why keeping jobs for Americans triggers you this much. Would you like to explain your uncontrollable tears to me, dearie?

Yeah, he’s being bought by Qatar.

LOL...sure.

LOL...wow...and?

In the old days, the lesser nations came to us...now that we’re a lesser nation...we’re going to them.

It seems you don’t want to talk about Trump caving in on the tariffs with China.

Can’t blame you. You’re acting like a 12 year old girl.
Degenerate democrats are grasping and coming up with handfuls of their own shit.

Yes we know. The plan was to attack everything Trump did. They are only doing what they said.

When you have a coherent thought, feel free to weigh in on the thread... until then fuck off.

So all of your fellow Trump Dick Suckers I quoted in the OP were wrong?

Do you think that telling them this is going to make a dent in their propaganda? No. There is no amount of facts that will change the course of nonsense.

Then why can't you scale it back?
Family farms would go out of business for one thing. They aren't exactly rolling in dough to start with and you want them to produce less and sell less?
And if you don't want to do that, you can just export the extra stuff to other countries without feeling obligated to trade reciprocally.
Well we were doing that with USAID. Now that the blob has closed those markets to farmers and started the trade war...farmers are feeling the pinch. Ethanol was developed (in part) to create a market for excess corn. HFCS was another market created (High Fructose Corn Syrup) but that has been removed by health conscious consumers.

What you're seeing out of the White House is a fundamental ignorance on what a trade deficit/trade surplus means. It isn't driven by stupidity; it's driven by voters who believe any deficit is bad and any surplus is good. Trump plays on their stupidity and they vote for him.

The fact that we can sustain our economy while importing so much is a testament to the strength of capitalism. If you were to poll any group of consumers, they like having low prices and choices. That is what we had for decades. There is a reason for two car garages, summer homes, man caves, she-sheds, hunting camps, recreational vehicles, etc... Its excess and the middle class takes (or took) full advantage of it; now we're being told that you'll have to buy less (2 doll limit apparently) Tariffs raise prices and reduce choices. And, as the moronic MAGA turds on this thread have indicated, the goal isn't to re-shore American manufacturing.

If they are producing too much and still not making money, then they need to get a different job. Crying to the government to open up trade is not the right thing to do.

I am sure that somewhere in this mountain of words, there is a point. I am just too lazy to find it.

As things stand now, nobody has answered my question "why do we have to trade" satisfactorily.

Interesting outlook you have there. Wow.

Imagine my surprise.

Well you're too lazy to understand simple economics. Sucks to be you.

When you think about it, it's true. If you suck at making money at what you normally do, the normal thing to do is to find another job.

Lmao, I didn't agree with your mountain of words and you are now all offended.

They're not really sucking at making money. They are just in a sensitive industry and at the whims of a man child people like you worship.

This has nothing to do with Trump, but I do appreciate your free-flowing tears.

The way I see it is really simple: if you manage to produce a lot of product, but you are still not making money, well then, you really need to sit down and think about some solution for yourself. And furthermore, don't make this a problem for the entire nation. It is not the president's job to bail out your incompetent ass. Don't demand that he sell your surplus crap just so that your incompetent ass can keep feeding your family that is also likely incompetent, cause they share your worthless genes.
