The law says they have to report it because in the past they definitely did not in their attempts to hide abuse.
This law would make it so the people in the church who protected abusers would have criminal charges.
Seems like a good idea to anyone who isn’t totally delusional.

This story has made me think very differently about something.

I have never thought twice about making my confession face-to-face. I respect and trust my confessors. But now I realize that the face-to-face confession is a twisted leftist device of Vatican 2. From now on, I will accept only anonymous confession, behind a screen, in defiance of Washington State and their twisted laws.

I feel so fortunate that my conversion to Catholicism could wait until I moved to a diocese where holiness is still found. Our bishop refused to buy the covid BS and our diocese was the first where the pews were re-occupied by people after the "pandemic".

Such a "law" would fall flat on its face if it was tried here.

So on what grounds do they claim confession must be secret? I would understand not spreading every detail. That would be disruptive. But information effecting the safety and well being of the entire community is a different matter.

This would seem to be a no-brainer to me but since it involves "The Church" reporting child abuse is somehow off limits just because it was done in a confessional?

Every person, priest or not, has a moral duty to report child abuse.....End of story.

Is "The Church" all of a sudden special in that regard? Given "the Church's" track record on child abuse you would think they would be fine with it.....Sorry, no one should get away with child abuse by sayin' two Hail Marys then going about their day.

Just call me hard-nosed in that regard.
