current Montana law upholds the priest-penitent privilege, requiring that “a member of the clergy or priest may not, without the consent of the person making the confession, be examined as to any confession made to the individual.”

The first amendment is neutered. We live in a commentating world of destroying people calling that freedom of press. I don't hate Catholics. I respect any religious people who have the strength of their convictions, and envy the comfort they clam to receive. Good for them. I have a problem with those who expect to impose their religious beliefs on me, Catholic or otherwise.

There are different kinds of child abusers.

Some can be helped, some can't.

Pedophilia is incurable. However not all child abusers are pedophiles.

The assumption of the confessional is you want forgiveness. Meaning, you acknowledge you did something wrong. It indicates you want help.

It's not right or appropriate for the state to deny spiritual assistance. That is the domain of the Church and always has been.

Pedophiles don't confess. But wife and child beaters do. The Washington law blurs the distinction and renders it irrelevant. That's not right. It's very relevant.
