By Jan 15 2021, we were down to the minimal force of 2500.

He maintained air and logistic superiority by keeping open Bagram Air Base, from where we could strike them any time. He had convinced the Taliban leaders that should they attack US troops, there would be hell to pay. He also would have retrieved as much of our equipment from Afghanistan, before we left there.

And it is not clear why it was necessary to fight ISIS in Afghanistan at all, if they helped the United States to clear Afghanistan of Taliban terrorists? Wouldn't it have been easier to supply Afghan ISIS with weapons, as Reagan did with Shah Massoud's troops?
