Does it matter? Any story that starts with "in the beginning" just like "once upon a time" and then introduces a crafty talking serpent is a children's story. That being said the trees in Eden that bore fruit that was pleasing to the eye and good to eat represent people whose produce of the mind, the fruit of their consciousness, was satisfying, good to eat, edifying. Also when the children of Adam and Eve wanted to mate they went to a city. Which does imply they were living in a real place, as if it mattered, but it does contradict the belief that they were the first humans.
What matters is the teaching that flies right over the heads of the superstitious and the gullible.
Does anyone ever wonder if the town in the story of the boy who cried wolf ever existed since no one knows where it was, what language the boy spoke, and there is absolutely no archeological evidence to prove it was a real place? Why? Because it doesn't matter since its a fairy tale...
What matters is the teaching. Hard learned lessons of the past clothed in figurative language..
Talking serpents are real. Many competing broods of various breeds are trying to rule the world.
What then?

The Prophet Joseph Smith believed that the Garden of Eden was in or near Jackson County, Missouri. A revelation given through the prophet Joseph Smith tells us that before Adams death, he gathered his posterity to a place called Adam-ondi-Ahman and blessed his posterity. Another revelation revealed that Adam-ondi-Ahman was located in Spring Hill, Daviess County, Missouri. To members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Adam is Michael and the Ancient of Days and Jesus will come again and meet Michael aka the Ancient of Days in the valley of Adam-ondi-Ahman before his second coming.
