Was Kamala from a middle-class family, or was it just another lie, one of many the moderators failed to check?

She lied about it and got caught.
She did not lie about it and did not get caught.

You have the claims of one person allegedly asking about something from 40 years ago.

And that's all.

If this were any other topic, you probably wouldn't be so irrational.

For example:

This one guy says Trump cheated his way into and all the way through college.

Therefore, fact. Right?

childhood home in california

Daddy left at some point and was raised by her mother

also this is california

what is middle class in california is different from middle class in wyoming

Kamala Harris left Berkeley to move to Montreal in 1976 when she was 12 years old. She did not GROW UP in Berkeley. Geez do you guys ever tell the truth?

I used to work at McDonald's.

Strangely, this wasn't on any of my resumés.

And I don't think I've really brought it up to anyone but friends and family, since.

Now, if I were in need of creating a contrast between myself and a golden toilet beggar billionaire serial fraudster across the debate stage....

Yep, I might say that I worked at McDonald's to get through school. (IMPLIED: while the little trust fund baby cheated, spent, and partied his way through).

These claims exaggerate or misstate reality. Harris spent most of her childhood in the U.S. before moving to Quebec at age 12 and staying through high school.

She graduated in Canada and moved back to the US to attend college

So roughly 6 years before moving back. I wonder if she speaks some french

So generally she spent more year in the US

If she is not middle class then is she from the upper class or lower class

Vice President Kamala Harris claimed during Tuesday's presidential debate that she was raised in a middle-class household, sparking debate and fact-checking efforts.

However, fact-checkers have found this claim to be mostly false, as Harris grew up in an affluent neighborhood in Montreal, Canada, far from the modest life she suggested she knew, as Breitbart reports.

Harris made the comment while sidestepping a direct question about whether Americans were better off now than four years ago.

Instead of answering, she pivoted to her personal background, suggesting that her middle-class upbringing shaped her understanding of the needs of average Americans. Harris emphasized that her plan would uplift middle-class and working families.

Harris’ Focus on Middle-Class Solutions

In an attempt to further align with the struggles of working-class families, Harris shared her belief in the dreams and ambitions of the American people.

She elaborated on her proposed “opportunity economy,” claiming that it would address the challenges facing many Americans, including high housing costs and insufficient support for young families.

The vice president's statements painted a picture of a person who understands the struggles of everyday citizens. She noted the shortage of affordable housing and the difficulty many families face in raising their children under current economic conditions. Harris positioned herself as someone who would deliver solutions to these issues.

Fact-Check Reveals Harris’ Wealthy Upbringing

However, a closer look at Harris’ background reveals that her claim of being raised in a middle-class environment may not reflect reality.

Breitbart News politics editor Emma-Jo Morris fact-checked Harris’ statements and reported that Harris grew up in one of the wealthiest neighborhoods in Montreal, Canada. Westmount, the area in question, is described by Jo-Morris as not only the most affluent area in Montreal but also one of the richest neighborhoods in all of Canada.

Harris’ home during her teenage years was located on Grosvenor Avenue, a prestigious street lined with Victorian homes. According to Harris’ high school friend, these homes often sell for over $1 million CAD. This stands in stark contrast to Harris’ portrayal of a modest, middle-class life.

Harris’ Friend Paints a Different Picture

An op-ed written by Harris’ former high school friend further contradicts the vice president's claims of a struggling background. According to this source, Harris enjoyed a stable and comfortable upbringing, complete with family dinners and a secure home life. This depiction of her youth seems to conflict with the narrative of hardship and struggle that Harris implied during the debate.

Where do you get the idea that Ms. Harris grew up with wealth. Her mother was a medical researcher - a doctor. She couldn't afford to buy a house until Harris was a teenager. Kamala worked at MacDonalds.

Not every house in Westmount is a mansion. Harris and her family lived in a rental apartment in a second floor apartment. Such apartments were common in our middle class neighbourhoods as well. Our house on DeGrassi Street in Toronto, had a third floor apartment.

Trump's father was a billionaire. Trump went to private schools. He's clueless about middle class life. Or life in general.

Oh look, paid right wing liars intentionally fooling gullible Trumpers again.

A daily occurence.

Harris and her family rented the top floor of the house in Westmount. They didn't own the house. They rented one floor.

RIP to another idiot thread.

Here is the resume of her father

Harris was an assistant professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign from 1966 to 1967 and at Northwestern University from 1967 to 1968. He moved to the University of Wisconsin–Madison as an associate professor in 1968. In 1972, he joined the faculty of Stanford University as a professor of economics, and became the first black scholar to be granted tenure in Stanford's Department of Economics.[3][18] At various times, he was a visiting fellow in Cambridge University and Delhi School of Economics; and visiting professor at Yale University.[16] He served on the editorial boards of the Journal of Economic Literature and the journal Social and Economic Studies.[19][20] He is a longtime member of the American Economic Association.[21]

Harris directed the Consortium Graduate School of Social Sciences at the University of the West Indies in 1986–1987, and he was a Fulbright Scholar in Brazil in 1990 and 1991, and in Mexico in 1992. In 1998, he retired from Stanford, becoming a professor emeritus.[16]

At Stanford, Harris's doctoral students have included Steven Fazzari, a professor of economics at Washington University in St. Louis,[17] and Robert A. Blecker, a professor of economics at American University in Washington, D.C.[18] Harris helped to develop the new program in Alternative Approaches to Economic Analysis as a field of graduate study.[16] For many years, he also taught the undergraduate course Theory of Capitalist Development. He took early retirement from Stanford in 1998 in order to pursue his interest in developing public policies to promote economic growth and advance social equity.[22][23][24]

Here is the resume of the mother

Shyamala conducted research in UC Berkeley's Department of Zoology and Cancer Research Lab. She worked as a breast cancer researcher at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and University of Wisconsin. She worked for 16 years at Lady Davis Institute for Medical Research and McGill University Faculty of Medicine. She served as a peer reviewer for the National Institutes of Health and as a site visit team member for the Federal Advisory Committee. She also served on the President's Special Commission on Breast Cancer. She mentored dozens of students in her lab. For her last decade of research, Shyamala worked in the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.[12]

Research

[edit]
Shyamala's research led to advancements in the knowledge of hormones pertaining to breast cancer.[13][6] Her work in the isolation and characterization of the progesterone receptor gene in mice changed research on the hormone-responsiveness of breast tissue.[6]

Looking at the career paths of both, I would hardly call them middle class.

They were upper middle class at best.

Most importantly, however, Kamala lived among the very rich and got the perks that they did academically and socially.

She didn't live with her father after age 8. That's 1972.

90% of the content of that resume happened AFTER that.

He was an associate professor, up to 1972. Yes, that is middle class.

Was Donald Trump's family and he lying about being Swedish?

So her father was a deadbeat and didn't support her at all? And I see you have nothing to say of her mother's career since it completely ruins any point you were attempting to make.

So her father was a deadbeat and didn't support her at all?
I imagine he did, somewhat. On a professor's salary. Why did you jump to him being a deadbeat? I didn't imply that. Weird.

Please, educate us on her mother's career while Kamala was a child. In your own words, since you are so confident.

You stated that all of his successes occurred after he and her mother divorced, as if they had nothing to do with her at all, which is not the case.

The post you quoted outlined her mother's career, apparently you can't read either.

Yeah, she's a pathological liar.

I did not state that. This is just a demonstrable lie. As anyone can see for themselves.

He was a professor. In what weird universe does a family of 3 live high on the hog, thanks to the professor's child support?

You just don't have anything. Speculation, falsehoods, nada

The bottom line is Kamala got to live in the richest area in Montreal and got educated with them as well.

Kamala was a child of privilege.

There is nothing they have said to disprove that.

At a publiic school.

Now public High school education isn't middle class?

You're really looking for a lifeline, now.

He was a professor at Stanford, you are apparently clueless as to what such employment pays.

And you have no idea what monies he contributed towards her as she was growing up.

As are you, apparently. Why don't you go look up and tell us what he made. And we will show you that's middle class.

And don't forget, also guess what he paid in child support, age 12-18 for Kamala. I expect a big number, after your chest thumping!

Deal?

First define 'middle class', what's the salary?

And why do continue to ignore her mother's career, an inconvenient fact?

exactly the little tale omit one fact and that the parents divorced and she was raised by a working mother.

Moving to Canada probably was because California is a hard place to live as everything is expensive for a single mom raising two kids. She really wasn't American and probably had no family in the US.
