No. If you are attacked militarily or if somebody starts beating crap out of, you must fight back or risk imminent destruction or injury. War from the defense, after attack is not a choice, accept to live through the next day. You do not wait to gather allies, ramp up production, or even insure long-term logistics. If attacked, you defend with the army you have, ready or not.
If not in imminent fear of destruction (a matter of days, weeks or maybe months) and you launch an attack, that is by choice. This current attack on Iran, was totally a war of choice. The US and Israel had already destroyed Iran's ability to enrich their Uranium, and wrecked their facilities. Current intel analysis, reconfirms, Trump was correct on the effect of last July's attack on Iran's nuclear program, did in fact knock you their ability to enrich Uranium, as recently reported publicly by Israeli press, as well as Secretary of State Rubio's public statements shortly before our attack, that Iran has not been enriching since July of last year, as their facilities and equipment were wiped out. So, there was no imminent nuclear threat.
We learned the timing of the attack was so poorly planned, that trusted allies within the theater of operations were not even informed, so as not to have our own planes targeted with air defenses (we supplied) were shot down by allies on day one, as the airspace of operations was not coordinated, costing us at least two if not three of our most advanced attack aircraft on day one. This reflects, we do not trust our trusted allies in the region, or the timing was pushed forward and caught them unaware. We learned, that even US military in TOCs located within the theater of operation were not even informed, costing us 6 Enlisted and Officer lives on day one.
We learned that without the gathering of allies, prior to the "go it alone" strategy, Iran could launch missile attacks that could and did prove they could overwhelm Israeli and regional allied air defenses. Such that cities, infrastructure, and petroleum facilities in multiple countries could be struck by Iran, at will, even while sustaining seemingly devastating attacks by US and Israeli air and missile forces.
We learned to the Trump administration's surprise, the Iranian people would not rise up and join the fight on our side, lacking the capability and or will.
We learned the extent and ability of Iran to employ small long distance drones to penetrate air defenses, to continue to strike targets deemed strategically important. Their ability to continue the fight beyond the first week would not be degraded to the point, they could not continue to inflict strategic damage.
We learned, Iran had and still (after 3 weeks plus of bombardment) still has the ability to shut down the straights of Hormuz, locking up petroleum, meant for the world, and causing the rapid increase in oil and gasoline prices here and around the world in almost a decade, forcing multiple countries (including the US) to access strategic reserver, but not in quantities that would keep the price of petroleum products in check. And that the only crude leaving the region is by Iranian tankers.
We learned, that the usual allies of the US in past offensive and defensive operation, will not immediately yield to demands for support, after being left out of the loop on new war of choice.
Overall, we have learned their were many flaws, poor assumptions, lack of coordination, in the buildup and planning of this offensive operation, that is was the fault of the executive branch of the Trump administration, and that the majority of Americans do not approve this war of choice, rather than critical necessity at this time, with this short-range planning.
But, is it the"end of times"? I seriously doubt it, unless referring to the end of times to trust this president and this administration to adequately analyze intel prior to, and properly coordinate and execute this war of choice.
