Top athletes get top dollar. In most cases the are the most valuable people on the team, and, therefore get the most pay.
Why doesn't it work this way in the business world? What does it often happen that those that do the most work, that drive the business and results, often get the LEAST pay?
Not true in all industries, but most companies I have worked for the management and upper tier spend most of their time socializing, eating and in meetings where nothing really gets accomplished......
When my job was contracted out about 5 years ago :
1) I lost about $900 a month in income
2) I had to start paying for my insurance when it was free before my job was contracted out.
3) I lost income with yearly bonuses and safety awards.
4) I lost my shift differential pay.
5) I lost three weeks paid vacation . Now I only get one weeks paid. We were supposed to get 10 days vacation this year ; but the 10 days paid vacation got cancelled by Corporate supervisors this past June ...... As one of my foreman told me.
6) I lost the ability to trade shifts - where I work for one person and then they work for me. It can be done - but it has to occur in a pay week. So if I need a shift trade on Saturday ; I have to pay the person back by Sunday at midnight.
I lost so much when my job was contracted out.
I have a Fire protection and prevention mission - I provide Emergency Medical Care and I provide Security services. I also assist and provide with Environmental , Health and Safety . And I get rewarded.......I get thanked for doing such a good job - that my job gets contracted out and I loose benefits and pay.
I work years ( about the years 2004 to 2009 ) of solid 72 to 84 hour weeks, forced overtime , verbal abuse from shift supervisors , unfairly treated and me being told I have to do my job as well as someone else's- and when I do not finish both jobs In the time constraints I punished and reprimanded.
Me being forced to work overtime repetitively by a foreman - when no one else has to take their turn.
Me having to work overtime on my days off, or on long break and others whom are off; do not have to work overtime on the days scheduled off .
Lots of injustices and irregularities - along with favoritism in have to deal with.
And my having my job contracted out- is how I am thanked.
