Voting rights advocates say Trump's executive order requiring proof of citizenship 'could block millions from voting'. Isn't that the point?

Therefore we SUPPRESS illegal votes in federal elections, correct?

Which is exactly the opposite of what happens in the State of Arizona, for instance.

Therefore President Trump is correct. States need to be mandated to SUPPRESS illegal votes in federal elections.

States are not allowed to break federal law.
In my state last year, we had 73 illegal votes last year but not one was cast by an illegal immigrant.

No illegal immigrant would go anywhere near a polling place. The people at the polls with dark skins speaking a foreign language are US citizens.

Mind boggling. Why would anyone not promote proof of citizenship to vote?

Oh wait....
Because 1 in 10 voters say they can't easy show proof of citizenship and 3.2 million do not have proof of citizens due primarily because it was lost or stolen or they never had it.

Every one of these people that don't vote is a case of voter suppression. The mistake conservatives are making is thinking that they are just voters that will vote democrat. That is not so. They are just as likely to vote republican as democrat.

Everyone needs a legal state ID to do anything.

America the Outlier: Voter Photo IDs Are the Rule in Europe and Elsewhere

Face it: You and other Democrats just believe black people are too stupid to get ID.

Bullshit. Anyone can get a driver's license and if you lose your birth papers, you can order duplicates. The only people I know who legitimately cannot meet voter ID laws are a few native Indians--- it has something to do with the fact that they have no discreet living address other than on a reservation.

In my experience watching shows like Pawn Stars Chicago, it is only certain low income blacks who continually cannot carry ID or keep track of ID papers, and they all mostly vote democrat.

So the solution is not to do away with voterID laws, the solution is to kick these people in the ass and tell them that if they want to vote and access other government services, they need to get their act together.

The fact is a significant number of voters are not particularly excited about voting. Yeah, it's a civic duty and so long as they don't have to wait in a line too long or miss something really important, they'll do their civic duty and vote. But dig through the boxes in the antic looking for a birth certificate or spend half day trying figure out who to contact to get a copy of a birth certificate, ain't gonna happen. Require proof of citizenship to vote and turnout will drop.

state id or standard drivers license is all that is needed
And states need to verify citizenship before they issue either.

Some states do. Some states don't.

And that's a problem. If you can't see why it is, you simply don't take election security seriously.

Require proof of citizenship to vote and turnout will drop.

Tough cookies. If you can't even bother to keep track of your own important papers, you probably ain't much informed anyway. At least we will be better aussured of our votes all being legal.

Most voters see voting as a civic responsible, not an exciting event that they are eager to participate in. States that make voting easier tend have higher turnout than those that make it harder. Strick enforcement of citizenship requirements makes voting harder for some people and the more difficult you make it to vote the lower the turnout will be.

Voter ID laws don’t seem to suppress minority votes – despite what many claim

However, when we examined the census data, we found strict ID laws did not disproportionately disenfranchise minority voters, whether it was Hispanic Americans, African Americans or anyone else. There’s also a working paper by economists Enrico Cantoni and Vincent Pons that’s generating some buzz. It found results that are similar to ours – namely, strict ID laws do not appear to negatively affect minority voters.

Are voter ID laws backfiring?

Given that minorities are less likely to possess IDs, why are studies finding that these laws don’t suppress turnout?

Political scientists Jason Mycoff, Michael Wagner and David Wilson write that these laws likely don’t influence turnout because a voter’s political interest is strong enough to overcome the costs of having to obtain an ID. There’s also some evidence to suggest the laws actually act as a catalyst, inspiring and mobilizing minority voters. After a controversial North Dakota voter ID law was passed that made it more difficult for Native Americans to vote, Native Americans turned out in record numbers during the 2018 midterm elections.

It'd be awesome if the left stopped treating non-whites like they're idiot children.

If you need ID to fly, you should need ID to vote.

"Acceptable Identification at the TSA Checkpoint

Acceptable IDs

Traveling with an acceptable ID?
Check the list below.

Adult passengers 18 and older must show valid identification at the airport checkpoint in order to travel.

  • Driver's licenses or other state photo identity cards issued by Department of Motor Vehicles (or equivalent)
  • State-Issued Drivers License or State-Issued ID
  • U.S. passport
  • U.S. passport card
  • DHS trusted traveler cards (Global Entry, NEXUS, SENTRI, FAST)
  • U.S. Department of Defense ID, including IDs issued to dependents
  • Permanent resident card
  • Border crossing card
  • An acceptable photo ID issued by a federally recognized Tribal Nation/Indian Tribe, including Enhanced Tribal Cards (ETCs).
  • HSPD-12 PIV card
  • Foreign government-issued passport
  • Canadian provincial driver's license or Indian and Northern Affairs Canada card
  • Transportation worker identification credential
  • U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Employment Authorization Card (I-766)
  • U.S. Merchant Mariner Credential
  • Veteran Health Identification Card (VHIC)
In coordination with its DHS counterparts, TSA has identified acceptable alternate identification for use in special circumstances at the checkpoint.

A weapon permit is not an acceptable form of identification. A temporary driver's license is not an acceptable form of identification.

REAL ID

Beginning May 7, 2025, if you plan to use your state-issued ID or license to fly within the U.S., make sure it is REAL ID compliant. If you are not sure if your ID complies with REAL ID, check with your state department of motor vehicles.

Learn more about flying with a REAL ID.

Expired ID

TSA currently accepts expired ID up to a year after expiration, for the above listed forms of identification. DHS has extended the REAL ID enforcement deadline to May 7, 2025. Learn more about REAL ID on TSA’s REAL ID webpage.

Children

TSA does not require children under 18 to provide identification when traveling within the United States. Contact the airline for questions regarding specific ID requirements for travelers under 18.

In the event you arrive at the airport without acceptable identification (whether lost, stolen, or otherwise), you may still be allowed to fly.

The TSA officer may ask you to complete an identity verification process which includes collecting information such as your name and current address to confirm your identity. If your identity is confirmed, you will be allowed to enter the screening checkpoint, where you may be subject to additional screening.

You will not be allowed to enter the security checkpoint if you choose to not provide acceptable identification, you decline to cooperate with the identity verification process, or your identity cannot be confirmed.

TSA recommends individuals without acceptable identification arrive at least three hours in advance of their flight time.

Names With Suffixes

TSA accepts variations on suffixes on boarding passes and ID. Suffixes are not required on boarding passes. If there is a suffix on the boarding pass, and there is not one on the ID or vice versa, that is considered an acceptable variation.

If your identity cannot be verified, you will not be allowed to enter the screening checkpoint."

Unless you are an illegal and have a letter signed by the Border Patrol allowing you to fly under Biden. Right now, that would probably get you arrested and deported.

In democratic elections, the purpose is not to limit suffrage to only the informed voters. You can only have a government of the people, by the people, and for the people. if the people vote. Since the beginning of this nation we have increased suffrage from only wealthy land owners to all Americans and it has works pretty well for us. Creating laws that discourage voting will not serve us well.

In democratic elections,
Who has democratic elections? We are a republic.

Why not? Of what value are people voting if they have no idea who they are voting for? That amounts to NOISE. Noise only REDUCES the value of the other votes since noise is random. Far better to have everyone vote and everyone also informed.

To see the value of inclusive election where those who are governed elect those that will govern, you need only look at elections through the years. When those that are governed do not vote or can not vote for government offical , they don't support the government of the laws.

Most republics now claim to have democratic elections however many of those claims are false. Democratic elections are inclusive elections, held periodically where those that are governed are allowed and encourage to vote. When large segments of the population don't vote they lose interest in supporting the government or the laws it creates. Many such nations no longer exist.

Most countries only allow citizen to vote in national elections but some allow permanent residents to vote in some local elections. The US is one such country.

People should certainly be informed. However, people should be encourage to vote regardless how informed they might be. We need people to engage themselves in their community, support our laws and our government and the first step is voting.
