Arizona's largest county listed wrong date for the election on voter ID cards (but just in Spanish) - The Maddow Blog

Arizonans who went to their local municipal offices in Maricopa County to pick up their voter ID cards may have been instructed to go to the polls on the wrong date -- but only if they were looking for the information in Spanish.

The wrong date was printed on a document that contains the new voter ID card. The document lists the general election date as November 6 in English but reads "8 de Noviembre" in the Spanish translation.

it's up there with forcing your employees to use their free time to be a backdrop for your big business candidate.

voter id? WHO KNEW this thread was about voter id?

I posted about EMPLOYERS trying to direct their employees which way their bread was buttered and the problems with that. Also about a ploy to send voters to the polls the wrong day.

OMG that's called UNION 101.:D

Your UNION can't find a million different reasons to start a paper trail on your "performance" because they saw the "wrong" sign in your yard, the "wrong" bumper sticker on your car, or the "wrong" candidate supported on twitter.

The hell they can't. And you're a damned fool if you think they don't.

“They were told that it was mandatory, even though he said that it wasn’t required. Clearly this was sort of a bully atmosphere that they put together, and therefore this has to be reported as a campaign contribution on behalf of Murray Energy,” Rothenberg says.

Rothenberg also he thinks the company may have broken federal election law if workers were forced to be at the event, which amounts to a coerced contribution.

I think it would be more important to require a class on the Constitution as a requirement for graduating first the 8th grade (for those of you who don't go any further), and then the 12th for those who desire a regents diploma.

Nothing illegal about a Pastor advisng his congregation on who to vote for, it's called freedom of speech, and it's a protected right under the Constitution, which supercedes Lydon Johnson's "Johnson Amendment" which tried to stifle that freedom by instituting the 501c bs. Here's a clue, “Congress shall make no law respecting the establishment of religion, nor prohibiting the FREE EXERCISE thereof. ”
Therefore ANY law that prohibits a Pastor from guiding his flock according to the dictates of his faith, is unconstitutional. A few weeks ago thousands of Pastors around the nation preached FOR specific cadidates from their pulpits, taped the sermons and sent them to the IRS in a move to force the IRS into doing something about it so that this matter can work it's way through the courts once and for all. My church participated with both me at the morning service and my Pasor at the 11am service telling the congregation why biblically they shouldn't vote for obama and certain locals who are also liberal democrats where mentioned by name, but truth be told, we do that all the time and have never went to the govt hat in hand to become a 501c corp. We are not a corp, we are a church and therefore are exempt without any 501c designation. Pastors have the same exact right to freedom of speech as anyone else, and the govt has no right to strfle that freedom.

You know as well as I do, that they enjoy tax exemption status based on the notion that they are non-profit organizations (ha!) and it is morally reprehensible to use your "freedom of speech" to coerce people to vote according to your own proclivities. It's called fleecing the sheep.

Bullshit. Many churches pretend to be non profit while they rake in the donations and build mansions for their pastors.

When you are basically standing in a position of authority, and threatening people who trust you with hell if you don't vote like them, that is utterly, morally and ethically wrong. It's absolutely repugnant.

Helen Purcell, Maricopa County Recorder, has issued the following statement:

A programming error is to blame for the misprint. http://latino.foxnews.com/latino/ne...-voter-id-cards-give-incorrect-election-date/
The recorder's office confirms the paperwork that accompanied some voter ID cards had the wrong election date printed in Spanish. The date is shown as November 8th, though the election is actually on Nov. 6.
The recorder's office believes the mistake affects less than 50 of the more than 2 million voter ID cards issued. Source

Mrs. Purcell claims it's on account of human error, and said, "we're the first to admit we're not perfect."

Top 10 facts about Hispanics in AZ:
There are 766,000 of Arizona latinos who are eligible to vote.

That said, the less than 50 who received the accidental wrong date information constitute at most, .00006 (six ten-thousandths of one percent) of people who were affected.

There was no massive effort to disenfranchise large numbers of Latino voters in the state, and it is certain that the Maricopa County's Recorder regrets it if the error caused anyone an inconveniencce.

Why does this and the acts of all the businessmen who HAVE taken this advice matter if no one knows who you cast your vote for? Because this type of voter intimidation isn't simply meant to suppress votes. This sort of thing represses people's willingness to take part in ANY part of the democratic process. Lawn sign? Nope, the boss might see it. Posting why some policy, party, or politician is in a communities economic and social interest on any social networking sight? Nope again, because the inhumane resources department of any large business is "large and intrusive" enough to monitor what you publish. Even a BUMPER STICKER is out of the question in the atmosphere this creates.

In audio of a conference call, Mitt Romney can heard instructing employers on how to tell their employees who to vote for, and the consequences to their job if Obama wins.

Here is the audio:

Audio Reveals Mitt Romney is Behind Employer Layoff Threats if Obama Wins

According to the Working blog at In These Times, Romney said, “I hope you make it very clear to your employees what you believe is in the best interest of your enterprise and therefore their job and their future in the upcoming elections. And whether you agree with me or you agree with President Obama, or whatever your political view, I hope, I hope you pass those along to your employees.”

Thanks to Citizens United, these kind of scare tactics are legal, and they should sound familiar. Employers have been using these same kinds of threats to keep unions out of the workplace for decades.

It isn’t a coincidence that in recent weeks there have been a rash of Romney supporting billionaires warning of layoffs if Obama wins.

Mitt Romney wants America to believe that he cares about the middle class, and if you don’t believe that, you could lose your job.

Because nothing says democracy like the threat of being fired if you exercise your right to vote for the candidate of your choosing.

First of all, no one (including supervisors and bosses) can tell anyone how to vote. doesn't matter if you have lawn signs or what not. Unions are good for telling their members to vote Democrat and threaten to fine their members if they don't comply which is out right ridiculous. Secret ballot..

However, employers do give a heads up to their employees of what could hold in the future if Obama is re-elected as far as making cuts to the company or even shutting down in some cases. At least this way, these folks are not blindsided if the worse were to happen.

The idiots have a preference for Solyndra-style layoffs.

Show up to work one day for your great job with a green company, total lockdown, no notice whatever.

Obama's unwise fiats are causing havoc in the business communities. He wiped out gulf oil drilling, half the restaurant industry all over the USA went belly up due to lack of tourist traffic when the damn gas prices went from a buck eighty to four dollars a gallon

Obama administration: BIG DOH!!!

That employer did the right thing: if he has to spend all his money on Obama's crap tax, he has to go out of business. Unlike Obambam, he doesn't have a printing press to make more money than he has.

And it was very thoughtful of him to let his employees know the root of the problem his business has, and why they should be looking for another job if Obama's hate tactics against small, medium, and large business prevails.
