Venezuela Is The New Cuba: US policy toward Venezuela through sanctions is very similar to the policy that it has had towards Cuba since the 1960s

Even after years of the US bullying Venezuela, the Venezuelan people remain open to diplomacy with the US. Biden should meet Venezuela’s good will by removing the deadly Trump-era sanctions and freeing political prisoner Alex Saab.

The US screwed Cuba and drove them into the arms of the Soviets because of the sugar beet lobby.

Of course. The Soviets bought their whole sugar cane production after the US dumped them. You remember the Esso refinery?
Sugar had very little if anything to do with Castro being a communist almost from day 1.

Were you?
Yep. My father used to go to Cuba to check the Esso refinery. I was in Charleston during the crisis. Since Chas had a submarine base people were terrified the Soviets would bomb us. The whole thing was bungled.

Most everything in Cuba was bungled. I was in pre school in 59 and in 3rd grade crawling under my desk with my classmates in October 62 because some idiot parked a bunch of nukes 90 miles from the US.

sadly yes…another leftwing darling that was once championed by demafascist has turned into a brutal dictator and brought mass poverty

We didn't do duck and cover in my school, but I've heard of it.

The embargo of Cuba constitutes the longest and most comprehensive set of sanctions in modern history. It is an act of war, a violation of human rights designed to obstruct Cuban development, to undermine its example as a revolutionary alternative, and to intentionally cause suffering among the Cuban people.

For sixty years, the United States’ blockade against Cuba has worked to hinder the island’s development and prevent it from trading even with third countries. It’s time Washington stopped its cruel punishment.

during the first six years of Barack Obama’s presidency, a record-breaking fifty-six fines were imposed on foreign entities engaging with Cuba, amounting to nearly $14.3 billion...in February, a top official in Biden’s administration said US sanctions imposed on Russia following the invasion of Ukraine were also intended to hit Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaragua. That month marked the sixtieth anniversary of the US blockade of Cuba, introduced in February 1962 by President JFK’s Embargo on All Trade with Cuba

On April 16, 1961, Fidel Castro announced, “What [they] cannot forgive us for is . . . that we have carried out a socialist revolution right under the nose of the United States!”

For another perspective.

i’m sure you demafasict have all the excuses for why your polices fail

Don't be stupid. The US blew it with Cuba back in 1961. I was interested because of the Esso refinery there. My father went there on business and he loved Cuba.

Haha... yeah Venezuela is all frigged up because America sucks.
Yeah... nothing to do with Chavez... such a great man right?
Typical liberal hogwash.
"We fucked everything up, America won't bail us out and sanctioned us because we stole and misused all of the countries resources - so... yeah... America is at fault!

The US backed a lot of preening dictators who took all the oil revenue and shrank the middle class. That's why they got Chavez. He did some good things.. like Petro Caribe. You should read some history of VZ.. about 80 years back.

There has never been a "blockade" on Cuba. They can trade with import export with anyone they want. Even the food/medicine restrictions against American companies exporting products there were lifted over 20 years ago. Cuba is broke, the people have no money to buy anything.
They have crappy little government run food markets. They don't have nothing like a supermarket.

Venezuela, the government, owes American and other foreign companies billions that they stole from them.
