Yes, it is incredibly foolish for Team Biden to keep vaccine doses hoping for the day when the hesitant will decide to knuckle under to the bullying. Sent those excess doses to people in other countries that will take them, or whose governments are authoritarian enough to force their subjects to take them. Currently only 2 Billion doses of mRNA vaccine have been manufactured which is sufficient to vaccinate 1 billion people...but currently we are on boosters. So the number of people capable of being vaccinated is less than a billion.

I have read that they believe that the new strain mutated off someone with HIV/AIDS because the shear number and particular characteristics of some of the new features being seen in this particular version. What I have not seen is any real world evidence that it is making people sicker than those with the other strains. There is some modeled data that suggests that this thing could be spreading magnitudes faster than the original version but that again isn't real world evidence.

When we see it both add insertions (and [italics]) deletions to its possession of already existing old Delta deletions, we think it’s going nuts in trying too decide what to do. After all the dipshit Omicron is a long way from home.
