The letter is ignorant as well, Congress proposes legislation, not the Executive. The letter should be sent to Congress.

Having obstacles will discourage many law abiding persons from purchasing firearms. This will result in higher casualties amongst victims in gun related crimes, which of course would be a concern for law enforcement officers.

True, a lot of the disputes are domestic, but there are many which involve home invasions and robberies. A good example that is unfortunately all too common is the typical convenience store or liquor store owner. A lot of these business owners will experience hold-ups while on the job. Obstacles related to gun control may discourage some of these shop owners from purchasing a gun to protect themselves and their establishment. That will result in the criminal having the upper hand since he's the only one who's armed. If the criminal starts firing his weapon, the shop owner would not be able to return fire as he never purchased a gun in order to avoid the red tape associated with gun control laws. I just don't like reading about these tragic cases where a shop owner gets robbed at gunpoint, doesn't resist and winds up paying the ultimate price.

I can't stand it when people say they're willing to die for something on a piece of paper. No family I assume? Got into WWI over a piece of paper. Would hope people in charge of enforcing laws have some common sense and don't spout nonsense like this as a regular thing.
