The most plausible explanation for the IDF's attack on Liberty is this: Sink Liberty with no survivors, blame Egypt, wait for US troops to invade Egypt; thereby, weaking the USSR's position in the Middle East.

I turned 20 in the summer of 1967 and knew a few guys in Vietnam who did not want to be there.

If Liberty had gone down with no survivors and Egypt took the blame, many of those guys would have fought for a place in line to invade Cairo.

And some of their grandkids would be there today, keeping a close eye on "our" oil in the Sinai.

Bullshit. The Liberty collected signal intelligence from both Israel and Egypt and there is no basis for your bizarre allegations.

There was a public hearing at the time, the Naval Board of Inquiry, in which the whole crew of the Liberty testified, and the conclusion was that at the time of the attack, Israel was unaware the Liberty was a US ship.
