Wreckage of World War II aircraft carrier USS Hornet discovered

Historic accounts have it that Doolittle "agreed" with the Hornet skipper to launch the strike prematurely even though it would doom the chances of many of the planes from reaching safety in China as planned. Chances are that the Hornet could have reached the planned launching site even though it was sighted by a Japanese picket boat which was sunk but it seems that nobody ever did the math for fear of tarnishing the legacy. Japan seemed clueless about the raid so it seems that launching prematurely was based on a timid decision.
