Japan never believed she could win the war, her intentions were to make America pay for territory and eventually make some kind of peace. In the peace Japan would acquire some of the Pacific's natural resources. So assuming we accepted that peace, America could turn her entire attention to Germany. A bigger question, were we willing to pay the price, or would we have made some accomodations with Germany? If we invaded Europe, we would not have Britain as a staging area, so the invasion would likely have to take place in what Churchill called the soft underbelly. There was also the American people, by 1945 they were already tired of the war, and what of Germany, Hitler was a dying man and the German people were tired of war. Nope we would have made some kind of peace with Germany. Except for one thing, the Atomic bomb and the means to deliver it.
