US Senate Votes To Ban Torture

I wonder what kind of people would want to torture another person. I mean, if my child was kidnapped and I needed to find out where he was or something, then I could almost understand torture, but to torture a person that you don't even know just to get some information? You must be kind of a sick fuck.

Nope. Just a realist.

You must be a gutless wonder.

So if you don't want to torture or don't get enjoyment out of it, a person is gutless? Is this how you really feel? If so, seek help.

Since I don't consider water boarding torture your comment is laughable.

Oh an no one would enjoy real torture. Too much blood and screaming.

I'm sure you would feel differently if someone did that to you. Now, once the government says torture is okay, who is to say they wouldn't abuse that power? Who is to say they wouldn't use it on American citizens? It is unconstitutional as cruel and unusual punishment and a slippery slope to say the least! Besides, once we sink to THEIR level, how can we claim to be the "good guys?"

People making critically wounded points like Claudette does reveal the real reason we, or anybody, engages in torture -- sadism. The emotional feedback of "revenge". It absolutely DRIPS off her posts with all the references to "shitbags". She's not interested in results or tactics or efficacies or saving American lives and image -- she just wants the emotional wank of sadism. It's like porn to that element.

Sadly it's how they roll in the shallow end of the gene puddle.

Excuse me while I stand over here and LMAO.

No one would enjoy real torture. Too much blood and screaming.

Oh and they are shitbags. Killers par excellance who would dearly love to kill you me and anyone else they could get their hands on. Oh and they really would torture you.

QED. It DRIPS off the page.

Nuclear bomb in LA, the person you have has the location and the shut down code. Bomb goes of in 1 hour.

Proceed.

Don't hold your breath Marty.

They talk a good game but when push comes to shove they'd let the city blow.

I mean who would want to water board the man with the info? He has rights and those rights are more important than the lives of millions of people in LA.

Its all about that moral high road ya know.

There it is again. The "Good Guys" WOW you seem more incenses with that good guy label than anythign else.

As I said. I don't consider water boarding torture. Real torture is a very messy affair.

Now that Congress has banned it I expect every other form we use to gather info will banned as well.

Guess we'll just have to ask nicely and hope they tell us what we want to know.

I've seen that TV show. It sucked. I even started a topic on a forum somewhere begging them to kill Jack Bauer's daughter Kim. She was just too stupid a character to be allowed to live.

So I would proceed to change the channel.

I have always known you retards get your bedwetter scenarios from Jack Bauer. It's obvious.

None of the detainees had information about a nuke that was going to go off in one hour. There is ZERO evidence torture provided any lifesaving information.

And once again, I will point out that you have to be really retarded to believe torture is the only way to interrogate someone.

I can't even call this a nice try, retard.

Good intelligence would be more reliable and better than torture ever would be.

Provided you get any intelligence at all.

Human rights are still human rights whether you wear a uniform or not

Would you support a US citizen whether in uniform or not, being subjected to waterboarding, hypothermia, sleep denial or stress positions to obtain a confession?

Actually how you conduct yourself matters a great deal when it comes to the rules of war, and how you are treated. Again, all of this is based on reciprocity, and if the other side doesn't want to play along, they do not deserve the protections the rules allow.

and no, US citizens shouldn't be subjected to that unless they decide to become unlawful combatants, then remove their citizenship and fuck them.

Again the issue is your human rights not your combatant status

Does the US have a right to complain if Venezuela, Columbia or South Africa uses these same techniques on US citizens to obtain a confession?

After all, we are claiming they are not torture

It depends on if they were unlawful combatants, and said countries were doing it to get information or for "ha ha's, or to make a point.

What difference should it make if those techniques are not considered torture by our country?

Shouldn't US citizens be subject to them?

if you belong to an organization that goes outside the rules of war, you should be stripped of US citizenship and left to the dogs.

That is the point

Who gets to decide what an "unlawful combatant" is?

We never gave them a trial, never let them see the evidence against them or face their accusor. We just captured them, hauled them to some remote outpost and began torturing them

What stops another nation from doing to our citizens what we have done to others?

They scoop up a US citizen, torture them until they confess to being "unlawful combatants" and then are as justified in using torture as we claim to be

I never had a problem with detaining them as enemy combatants, but torture crosses the line, IMO.

Many of the "unlawful combatants" ended up in Gitmo because a jealous tribe member pointed them out as members of Al Qaeda. These were innocent people whose property or tribal rank was stolen from them by rivals after they were spirited away by the Americans.

Whoever posted the bit about the Salem witch trials earlier was really not far off the mark. The exact same principle was involved. A mere accusation by someone who doesn't like you was enough to get you burned at the stake. And those who sat in judgement operated under the misguided belief that "he wouldn't be here if he wasn't guilty", which is EXACTLY why we have a Fourth Amendment.

The torture fetishists don't want to apply the Fourth Amendment or human rights to foreign darkies, and thus have no understanding how despotism arises from that kind of thinking. They have no understanding how it INEVITABLY leads to innocent people being tortured and killed.

The torture fetishists watch too many TV shows and are completely ignorant of reality.

Our country acted shamefully. Very shamefully.

it's a mental exercise in absolutes, one you have obviously failed. and your lashing out shows you don't have a real answer to it, or you are too cowardly to say "LA can burn as long as I have my principles"

We didn't "torture" all of them we interrogated those who may have had more information.

You didn't answer the question. In this scenario what would you do?

Down to 45 minutes.

Okay, that's another fair example. However, torture should not be used as a normal interrogation method. For one thing, it's not very reliable because people will say anything to get the torture to stop.

But some of these clowns consider any form of aggressive interrogation to be torture.

And you didn't answer the question. Make this guy squeal.

Down to 45 minutes.

Poor LA if its depending on these clowns to save it.

After all their principles are all they care about.

You don't arrest unlawful combatants. Arrest implies custody by whatever judicial system is in the jurisdiction. Considering we don't interrogate tourists here, I would expect the same when travelling.
