What you failed to note is that the clashes reportedly began after protesters gathering for a rally in support of a unified Ukraine were attacked by pro-Russia activists (thugs?) armed with clubs and air pistols. They pro-Ukrainian nationalists were not thugs.

They are very well armed for a militia group, tanks, missiles, and artillery, I'm guessing Russia is providing it. Are they provoking it too as an excuse to annex? I'm guessing yes to that too. I'm not the only one.
