FPV drones from pro-Iranian groups have been spotted for the first time over the American military base "Victory" in Baghdad. The FPV drones, of an unknown model, are controlled via fiber optic cable and are possibly used by the "Islamic Resistance in Iraq" group. Judging by the video, the American military base is empty and the drone operator is attempting to find a target. In this case, the very use of FPV drones indicates a significant future threat to US bases in Iraq and the region. Currently, air defenses cannot effectively engage FPV drones.

Just a technical correction.

FPV stands for First Person View. Meaning there is a camera relayed back to the operator and they can view the drones actions from a first person prespective.

Whether the drone is/was controlled via fiber optic cable is a different question. Depending on the model FPV drones can be fiber controlled or controlled via RF. If fiber controlled great car must be taken in manuevering to prevent accidently cutting/damaging the thin fiber connection. If RF controlled there is more manuverability options, but the control signals are subject to jamming.

Just MHO of course, but the way the drone in the video flew around walls, buildings, trucks, and light polls I doubt it was fiber controlled, as the trailing fiber cable is about the width of a human hair and trailing behind. It would have likely been snagged or wrapped around an object on the ground.
