Still a serious problem with no solution in sight. Looks like Floridians are beginning to like their pythons.

No other invasive species or 'vermin' is given the same 'humane' consideration regarding dispatching them. Remove that and progress may be made.

I understand that it's turned into the same thing as Texas's so-called "hog problem".

People figured out that there was money to be made hunting them and "the bigger the better" so they encourage their growth and spread.

Just look-up "fl python outfitters".....There are lots of them.

Here's an example:

Exaxtly

They should be killed on sight

FL needs to put a bounty on them, I am sure they already have a no fee kill all you can. I am sure some rednecks will throw them on a grill, I mean they can get huge, feed a family for days

Myanmar pythons, not Burmese pythons...

what are they munching for that to happen? deer, pets, boars should be their general food supply and basically anything that moves

True. They are a now valuable resource as a tourist attraction.

Floriduh got the market cornered on invasive species. The forementioned python of course, but also iguanas, feral pigs, cane toads (and other toads), African cichlids (predatory fish), I've even heard talk of giant snails of some sort.

The list is nearly endless. Floriduh man strikes!!!

A good reason to avoid Florida.

Python meat can contain heavy metals, but the levels can vary widely depending on multiple factors:

  • Environmental Factors: The concentration of heavy metals in python meat is largely influenced by the environment the snake lives in. Pythons, like other animals, can accumulate heavy metals through their diet if they live in or consume prey from contaminated areas. For instance, if pythons feed on animals that have absorbed heavy metals from polluted water, soil, or air, these metals can bioaccumulate in the snake's body, including its meat.
  • Species and Location: Different species of pythons might have different tendencies to accumulate heavy metals based on their diet, habitat, and biological processes. For instance, Burmese pythons in Florida, which are known to eat a wide variety of prey including potentially contaminated species like fish, could have higher levels of certain metals

put a bounty on them and then people will breed them for the bounty,,

progressive hunter yes I can see that happening, if you were given 100 bucks for each snake somebody would breed them for the profit

unless you just want to shoot something or you actually want the meat and the skin not much incentive. I am sure major boot makers would be interested in buying your skin, there might even be some sort of exchange
