There are more poor whites in this country than black. If what you said were true, there would be integration among the lower class. But there isn't. You have poor all white hoods and poor all black ones. I've lived in poor hoods before, and they were always all black. The few whites we had, they would ignore us and obviously resented us. I once came outside to a black and white neighbor arguing, the white one exclaiming that she didn't call her the N word. lol If whites move into a poor non white community, it is under the pretense that it will be majority white in a few years, e.i getrification. The realtors also have a huge role in redlining and discriminating against non white homebuyers, which isn't new, and is well documented. But even with integration, if you go into a school, you will see white kids sitting at one table and blacks at another. Racialism is a natural thing and impacts all avenues of day to day life.

Close to a couple decades ago I worked in aerospace for a composites manufacturer/Boeing subcontractor. In my work area - cell - 'team' we had a majority of SE Asians. While they could work side by side on production floor, when it came to break and lunch time the Laotians had their own table, same for the Thai, the Cambodians, and the Vietnamese - who had two tables because there were so many of them.

To many from outside of SE Asia, they might look the same. A couple of my white co-workers referred to them as "the rice eaters", outside of earshot mostly. Myself, knowing the recent history of the region and what many of them likely went through escaping and getting here, we could relate. I was one of the few non-Asians invited by them to join in their New Year potluck lunch.

Homo Sapiens has hundreds of thousands of years of acculturation that anyone outside their group is bad and/or dangerous. In social situations, like tends to stay around like, women congregate with other women and men congregate with other men. People who buck that trend are looked at as odd. In high school I played a lot of co-ed volleyball while my friends were playing basketball. They used to give me a hard time teasing me about being gay until I pointed out that they played in front of the girls, while I played WITH the girls. They kind of got thoughtful and were a lot more open about playing co-ed sports after that.
