Because the background checks were not invasive enough in some cases.

In other cases like Lanza….his mother had the arsenal in the house with a diagnosed mentally ill individual and the result was 26 people were killed.

It is good to see that you guys have given up on blaming Hollywood and Video Games (for the time being).

The blame is in the following order: parents, teachers, government officials, doctors, and Big Pharma. I don't know who "you guys" are supposed to be, but over the last decade I have been able to spot mass shooters years before they pick up their first weapon. I know what it would take to stop them. The left won't consider the plan because they have a religion that is all about control. The right has become a bunch of reactionaries unwilling to take the lead and stop the gun banners in their tracks.

Hollywood and video games offer up a piece of the puzzle, but like all the other pieces, you have got to have all the right pieces of the puzzle to understand the problem and the solution. It won't fit on a bumper sticker, so it isn't worth repeating over and over to people who think gun control via unconstitutional background checks is some kind of solution.

The government has NO AUTHORITY to require any American to undergo a background check as a prerequisite to exercising an unalienable Right guaranteed under the Bill of Rights and specifically guaranteed under the Fourth Amendment.

Any "search" (background check) as a prerequisite to exercising any Right is unreasonable by any metric. If you disagree, try applying your suggestion to any other unalienable Right you have.

Notice the phrase, "Probable Cause". And who makes the determination what probable cause is? The Voters, the Legislature and the Courts. You, the individual, don't make up the determination in a Federal Republic. You certainly believe you are much more important than you really are.

Now, for the 14th Amendment....

All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the state wherein they reside. No state shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any state deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.

Now we must look at what Due Process is.

I won't go into it because it's complicated. But to put in simply, the voter, Law Enforcement and Legislature cannot take what is considered a right from a citizen. It takes a judicial ruling or Writ to accomplish this and that can be taken to a higher court up to and including the Supreme Court. Each person is guaranteed their day in court and the right to face their accuser. In each step, if the law or the ruling goes uncontested, the law or ruling stands and becomes due process and binding.

Now, if Universal Background Checks are upheld in the Court Systems what part of the 4th, 5th and 14th amendment will have been violated? BTW, it's already been upheld in the Federal Courts for Colorado and California and 7 other states using the court rulings of Colorado.
