And back to the actual point (you remember what that was, right?), unions exist only as government-sponsored monopolies. Time to get rid of them.

Thanks for proving my points:
Business monopolies last only because of government laws.

no, many monopolies last because they are natural monopolies.

Well, i'll give you some credit here. you're learning. The above statement is a vast improvement over "there's no such thing as a monopoly without government legislation to that effect."

That should end any further comments from you on the subject.

Yes, after you've been prove wrong time and time again, I typically quit responding to your drivel. I'd hate to have you call me a hooker.

First you deny monopolies exist, you are proven wrong.
Then you deny they exist for very long, then you state that there are very few....

You have never proven me wrong. On the contrary, everything you post proves my point over and over.
IBM's monopoly ended precisely because business conditions changed.

I never said monopolies were naturally permanent. That's just you attempting to wheel away from your own words.

ATT's monopoly ended precisely because the government stopped insuring it was a monopoly.
I never mentioned AT&T. But since you brought it up: Why was AT&T granted a monopoly in the first place, Rabbi?

Your arms must get tired carrying goalposts all over the field.

And back to the actual point (you remember what that was, right?), unions exist only as government-sponsored monopolies. Time to get rid of them.

Unions aren't sponsored by the government. They were created without government.

And they are not monopolies.

You're catching on well to the guttersnipe's tactics.

Notice three posts of mine that have gone unanswered and a fourth replied to with a dodge and declaration of vicktery. At least he's not hiding from you. Yet.

But when his partners in disgusting behavior aren't around to cheer him on and literally all he's got is a combination of factually incorrect generalities and calling women hookers and whores, what did you expect?

you know what's great about conversing with Rabbi? No matter how many times he is proven wrong, he will come back with a NEW argument and claim victory...or call you a whore. Whatever he does, he will never, ever, ever admit he is wrong.

He must be a treat at cocktail parties!

He can be a fun little retarded chew toy when the board is slow, no doubt. But you can't even spoon feed him anything remotely resembling an actual argument. I think it's beyond his limited capabilities. Kinda fun to watch him squirm and foam though. And I've been called much, much worse than a hooker or a whore on teh interwebz in my time, by people who actually had two brain cells to rub together and make a spark even, and lived to laugh about it to this very day. ;)

I'm really fascinated by his assertion, can't really call it an "argument", going on here though. Monopolies don't exist naturally except when they do, and unions are not only exempt from First Amendment protections (in direct contradiction to statute and case law, even and especially those he trumpets) but are strictly government supported monopolies. I'd love to see the "evidence" that produces such insane reasoning.

It'll never happen, this is the official board gutter trash cut and runner we're talking about. But the whole lack of factual basis plus lack of logic equals completely bizarre conclusion thing fascinates me.

Somebody doesn't know their antitrust laws for sure, and doesn't know history if they think unions exist due to government. They were formed and for decades remained in existence in direct opposition to government, an opposition that turned bloody far too often.

I'm not a fan of how modern nationalized unions operate, but the union itself is a necessary organization and is in no way dependent on government.

I agree completely...and my wife grew up in central PA, so you gotta be good people;)

I'd ask where, but I know how that goes. The size of the little burgs in these parts make people way too easy to ID sometimes. ;)

The only question I have is, how did you marry a woman from real football country and have the bad taste to wear the Horns?

To be a bit more specific without giving you her street address....she grew up a bit outside of State College. State College was where they would go when they wanted to be in the "big city".

As for football country - believe me, her father spends the better part of every visit explaining Joe Pa's greatness to me...over...and over.....until he decides to talk about the greatness of the 55-win Pirates.

I like State College, it's a great town. Good chance we're from roughly the same area of the state then, without getting too specific. The Steelers, heck yeah. But Joe Pa? The Pirates? :eusa_hand:

Sacrilege, I know. But I spent several years including my young adult partying, er, educational and formative days down in Arkansas. ;)

IBM's "monopoly" lasted how long?

About thirty years.

Well, a couple reasons. 1, their patents expired. 2, the natural economy of scale involved and the monopsony both dried up with new technology.

There aren't many natural monopolies in a capitalist system.

Lol...How many options for Cable television service does your house have? How many options for water? wastewater? Electricity? High fixed costs + low marginal costs = natural monopoly...even in a capitalist system.

Thanks for proving my points:

There are very few natural monopolies.

That should end any further comments from you on the subject.

As of yet, you haven't shown Unions are a monopoly. You do understand what the word means??

We should end that stock Market Monoply!!

You're just a glutton for punishment, arent' you?
You prove every point I make and then make fun of me.

Yes, unions are monopolies. Look it up. They continue to exist only because of legislation specifically exempting them.

They would be broken up under anti trust laws were it not for special legislation. How is their existence not due to government rules under those circumstances?
How is the union "necessary" when virtually every new industry does not have unions representing their workers?

Uhhhh, you were the glutton for punishment I was talking about in my post, not 8537. :cuckoo:
