In anticipation of the United States' Sestercentennial Celebration, Union Pacific's #4014 "Big Boy" Steam Locomotive is making the rounds around the nation. Last week the train came to visit New York State beginning with Buffalo.

Very cool. Fascinating machines to say the least. I also like the fact that no faces of political figures are plastered all over the place. I wonder if it will make its way to Utah. I'd be interested.

While it is cool to look at, I noticed they had to include a modern engine in the train to keep the whole thing moving.

I was never much of a train person, they lost me when they did away with the caboose.

As kids they used to let us get on the caboose at the old Riverton, Virginia station and take us up-river aways and drop us off to either hunt or fish our way back.....Sigh, different times.

Technology. With all the electronics, they don't need two guys in a caboose keeping the rest of the train straight.
