True but I'm not referring to pre-war boasts or even those of the Baghdad Bob variety.
By June 8th Egypt's air power and C&C were destroyed. Their ability to fight a war was terminally degraded and what was left of their ground forces were in full, ordered retreat.
Israel had nothing to gain by attempting to bring the US into the fray and everything to lose by attacking an American ship. Surely the Liberty could be expected to radio for help and identify its attackers and, as such, we must agree to disagree in this matter. The aftermath could also be predicted: 45 years later "experts" are still calling this tragic friendly fire incident "murder."
