Actually, Russian Army invaded Crimea in 1782 (long before Ukraine was invented), and never leave it since that (even during German occupation in WWII there still were some partisan units). One can't "invade" region, if his forces are already there. If you knew anything you'd know how disapointed Girkin's people were with the difficulties of recruiting just 10k fighters out of 8 million. They did get some collaborators, mostly drunks, homeless etc.

Bottom line, separatism in Ukraine was not some internal issue, it was a movement propagandized, lead, funded and armed by Russians.
