U.S., Iraq planning 20,000 soldier spring offensive to retake Mosul from ISIS

The American people don't make foreign policy... We should have had a military base there. Obama dropped the ball. He didn't want it. He wanted to fulfill his campaign promise. He's a pathetic little man really
So how many decades of occupation and how many dead America soldiers would've been enough to quench your thirst?

A military base in a country is not occupation genius:wtf:
The size of the base you're talking about needed to keep out invaders and keep the locals from rising up sure as hell would count as an occupation.

Or were you just joking?
We have bases all over the world... are we occupiers?
Answer the question. What would it have taken to maintain a base in Iraq?
Not much.

Both of you are wrong...this is Bush and Cheney's grand design. The destabilization of the ME is genius. They are killing each other and soon, ME countries will have to make a decision as to what side they are on. Genius. I love it. Obama, the fool he is, unwittingly has helped this plan if he wasn't already privy to it.

Yeah that's it!!:uhoh3:
I am serious...did you think the American people would have allowed troops to remain in Iraq indefinately. They had to come up with a short term plan to have the longest possible effect that is beneficial to the States, UAE and Saudi Arabia. Turmoil in the Middle East was the answer.

And BTW, yes, the American people do make foreign policy. It is called elections. Why the hell do you think Obama got elected....the majority of Americans wanted to withdraw from Iraq. Not saying I agree...but Bush KNEW we were going to withdraw before we even went in....all planned...GENIUS. Turmoil in the ME, muslims killing muslims and ME nations choosing sides. WIN-WIN!
Bush knew I don't think so

Not much huh? Care to expand on that? Or do you mean "not much" the way Bush mean it would be swift and easy to conquer Iraq?

10,000 not much really, would have been worth it We spent all that money on a massive embassy there for what?

Well let's see right before "The Surge" we had 132,000 troops in Iraq. "The Surge" was Bush's answer to the turmoil in the country that 132,000 troops could not control. So we went up to 150,000 troops and took back some of the areas we had lost and brought things to a bit of an equilibrium. If you can call daily American casualties and the hatred of the Iraqi people "equilibrium."

But you Jroc , an Isreal-first "American" think that 10,000 troops on a base would have locked up Iraq? Are you ******* kidding?

Iraq was doing fine until Obama f..cked up everything we worked for. A base with 10,000 troops would have been plenty but Obama wanted out. Now we'll no doubt have to go back in anyway to a situation that wouldn't have existed if not for Obama

The mistakes were endless but I will give you one that I would put at the top of my list. It is Bush's but what it is might surprise some. Letting Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki dictate how we conducted the war really screwed us. We should have said, "Right or wrong we fought for it, we died for it, and we are footing the bill. We will operate as we see fit until you demonstrate you can lead." Letting al-Maliki tell us how to run our military was one of the worse mistakes the U.S. made.

As luck has it, Iran is cleaning up most of America's massive **** up in the region.
The great enemy of America, one that has never attacked you, has had troops fighting ISIS since the middle of last year, but the US press doesn't like to mention it.
