âTrumpâs actions and rhetoric are more than just a threat. Now he is beginning to use his seemingly unrestrained power to penalize women who donât offer him adequate praise and allegiance. We who thought we were afforded protection by the U.S. Constitution and by the rule of law are awakening to the reality of Trumpâs steady escalation of violence against women.
The evidence is stark. It has surfaced in ugly responses when women reporters â merely doing their job â ask him pertinent questions. He snapped at Mary Bruce of ABC News saying, âYou ought to go back and learn how to be a reporter. No more questions from you.â He told New York Times reporter Catherine Lucey âyou are a terrible person and a terrible reporter.â His response to ABCâs Rachel Scott: âYou are obnoxious, a terrible, terrible reporter.â To White House correspondent Kate Rogers, he responded, âQuiet. quiet, piggy.â
After attending Bishop Mariann Edgar Buddeâs inauguration last January where she requested mercy for immigrants, Trump accused the cleric of âgiving a boring service, making inappropriate statements, and not being good at her job.â Earlier he used crude language to attack Nancy Pelosi whom he called âevil, sick, and crazy.â In a public speech, he said Speaker Pelosi was âa word that I wonât say; but it begins with B.â Trump disparaged Democratic Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez saying âthis is not even a smart person; she just goes out and yaps.â He similarly attacked Congresswoman Maxine Waters labeling her âan extremely low IQ person.ââ

Republicans have long participated in the war on women â particularly at the state level, denying them access to reproductive healthcare, jeopardizing their health and lives.
