Trump's War on Women is Spreading

ā€˜Trump’s actions and rhetoric are more than just a threat. Now he is beginning to use his seemingly unrestrained power to penalize women who don’t offer him adequate praise and allegiance. We who thought we were afforded protection by the U.S. Constitution and by the rule of law are awakening to the reality of Trump’s steady escalation of violence against women.

The evidence is stark. It has surfaced in ugly responses when women reporters — merely doing their job — ask him pertinent questions. He snapped at Mary Bruce of ABC News saying, ā€œYou ought to go back and learn how to be a reporter. No more questions from you.ā€ He told New York Times reporter Catherine Lucey ā€œyou are a terrible person and a terrible reporter.ā€ His response to ABC’s Rachel Scott: ā€œYou are obnoxious, a terrible, terrible reporter.ā€ To White House correspondent Kate Rogers, he responded, ā€œQuiet. quiet, piggy.ā€

After attending Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde’s inauguration last January where she requested mercy for immigrants, Trump accused the cleric of ā€œgiving a boring service, making inappropriate statements, and not being good at her job.ā€ Earlier he used crude language to attack Nancy Pelosi whom he called ā€œevil, sick, and crazy.ā€ In a public speech, he said Speaker Pelosi was ā€œa word that I won’t say; but it begins with B.ā€ Trump disparaged Democratic Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez saying ā€œthis is not even a smart person; she just goes out and yaps.ā€ He similarly attacked Congresswoman Maxine Waters labeling her ā€œan extremely low IQ person.ā€ā€™

And as usual it’s not just Trump.

Republicans have long participated in the war on women – particularly at the state level, denying them access to reproductive healthcare, jeopardizing their health and lives.
