âIt has been a shocker of a week for the president: the Easter weekend F-bomb-laden post, the genocidal promise a few days later to wipe out a âwhole civilisationâ â only to be supplanted by a ceasefire â so poorly cobbled together â that Donald Trump didnât even seem to know what it meant.
Having got himself firmly impaled on a hook, he had to find a way to get himself off it.
So when the Pakistani prime minister suggested a two-week ceasefire, Trump leapt at it. There would be two weeks in which the Israeli and US bombing would stop, in return for Iran reopening the vital shipping lane of the Strait of Hormuz.

What we are seeing is âThe Art of the Deal â Iranian styleâ. Improbable as it may sound, having taken one hell of a military beating, Iran feels as though it is on top.â

And Iran is on top â having taken advantage of Trumpâs incompetence and stupidity.
The Strait of Hormuz remains essentially closed, gas prices remain high, and Trump has failed to realize any of the imaginary goals of his unwarranted, failed, illegal war.

Trumpâs failure in Iran has been laid bare â and could get much worse
The president is cobbling together a ceasefire he doesnât seem to understand and somehow making the brutal Iranian regime look positively charismatic while they choke the global economy, Jon Sopel writes
