US President Donald Trump will decide whether or not to directly join the war against Iran alongside Israel within the next two weeks, the White House announces.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt reads out a statement during a press briefing that she says comes directly from Trump.
“Based on the fact that there is a chance for substantial negotiations that may or may not take place with Iran in the near future — I will make my decision on whether or not to go within the next two weeks,” according to the Trump statement read aloud by Leavitt.

But is this the real reason the President is delaying his decision? It seems highly improbable that the ayatollahs will agree to give up all enrichment and to comply with the highly invasive security measures to verify they have done it, all in two weeks.
Perhaps Trump needs the time to establish the right political context in which to join the war, or perhaps he is giving the Israelis time to destroy Fordow on their own. This would be a much better outcome than having the US, the most powerful country in the world, do it for them. It would send a clear message that if you attack Israel, there is no place on Earth you can hide from retribution, not even under a mountain.
But can Fordow be destroyed without the giant bunker busters only the US can deliver?
Maybe. While its location affords Fordow significant protection from aerial attacks, air, water, electricity, at a minimum, have to be brought in to sustain the workers and keep the machines working, and this is done through a single tunnel, and Israel has 5,000 lb bunker busters that might be able to breach the tunnel and allow a ground force to fight its way into the facility if other Israeli forces can prevent Iranian ground forces to reach the tunnel.
Whatever one man can build, another man can figure out a way to destroy it.
