China gets 91% of its Oil from the Straight, Japan 62%, & many other countries likewise.” Trump tweeted, making the common mistake of spelling the word “strait” wrong.

So why are we protecting the shipping lanes for other countries (many years) for zero compensation,” he questioned. “All of these countries should be protecting their own ships on what has always been a dangerous journey.”

….a dangerous journey. We don’t even need to be there in that the U.S. has just become (by far) the largest producer of Energy anywhere in the world! The U.S. request for Iran is very simple – No Nuclear Weapons and No Further Sponsoring of Terror!

So why are we beefing up our military forces in the area? Isn’t it time other countries pick up the tab?

And the Left calls President Trump a dictatorial hawk.

Straight, eh? That’s like ‘marine corpsemen’.

I support Trump but he needs a proofreader. He does tweet and say some dumb things. But his point about those shipping lanes is spot-on correct. Do you agree?

Not entirely. Whatever impacts those other economies impacts ours. Especially where oil is concerned. Any interruption impacts prices in spite of increased production here in the US.

We should be getting support for our naval patrols and deterrence effects in those regions. Don't know why there would be any question about that. Most of those countries would be raiding each other's shipping if it weren't for us, and certainly the Red Chinese would love to have a free hand there; they would be extorting them no end.

Why do you believe that the American taxpayer and the American sailor are the only ones obligated to protect those shipping lanes?

Didn’t say they were the only ones but they certainly have a vested interest.

Most of them aren't the poor post-colonial nascent states they were after WW II any more. India is just now barely relevant around their own coast. Viet Nam is coming along, but not much of a deterrent, just a few German subs. Indonesia is worthless, the Philippines wanted us out, and then cried for us to come back in about year, etc. Australia is about it re countries that and defend themselves and project power outwards in SE.

We`re beefing up our military because it`s the #1 corporate welfare program in the world. If we don`t blow some little country up now and then it`s hard to justify the spending.

Then California should be next.

Because any shutdown of the Strait would result in Oil prices probably tripling, and that impacts our interests.

I agree with what he said. If you want your shipping protected then send YOUR ships to protect them.

It gets tricky with Japan. We limited their armed forces constitutionally and we also promised to protect their interests because of it.

Then prices go up. Ours sells at the higher price. And more of it to boot if the oil can't make out through the straight.

Do you realize what would happen to our Economy if oil prices triple?

Far less negative an impact than our chief competitors. It's all relative.

Not really. The real damage would be caused by mass speculation and market sell-offs, with the corresponding loss in value of most of our large companies. It would probably trigger a recssion right off the bat.
