President Donald Trump reportedly appeared to be unaware that the Republican budget legislation, formerly his “One Big, Beautiful Bill,” cuts approximately $1 trillion from Medicaid. In a meeting at the White House on Wednesday, Trump told moderate Republicans not to cut Medicaid, Medicare, or Social Security.

“Trump still doesn’t seem to have a firm grasp about what his signature legislative achievement does,” NOTUS reports. “According to three sources with direct knowledge of the comments, the president told Republicans at this meeting that there are three things Congress shouldn’t touch if they want to win elections: Medicaid, Medicare and Social Security.”

trump was unaware that the bill cut Medicaid. During the bills develoment, he stated over and over that SS, Medicare and Medicaid would not be cut. I just thought he was lying, which of course he does on a regular basis. But maybe he just did not know what was in the bill. Or more probable, he does not have the cognitive ability to understand what was in the bill. I suggest the latter. This is our president, a man who is oblivious to critical facts....

It’s still pretty complicated, but I have a good grasp on the major components.

Medicaid provider tax rates are being capped at 3.5% for states who expanded Medicaid to 138% poverty level based on the ACA. They cap at 6% for states that didn’t.

So this provision and change doesn’t actually have anything to do with illegal aliens.

The part that has to do with illegal aliens changes how Medicaid reimburses for expansion states, when it lowers the FMAP from 90% to 80% for ACA expansion enrollees.

To put it another more broadly, the OBBBA cuts federal payments that pay for citizens healthcare to get states to do what they want with their own money.

This is in great part why you have no credibility in this argument. Being unwilling admit that federal Medicare funds are being used by states like California to pay for healthcare for illwgal aliens is just dumb because they quite obviously are.

Dude. California says it’s using Medi Cal to give illegals healthcare. Medi Cal is the program which administers Medicaid in California. There’s zero debate about whether California is using federal funds to facilitate healthcare for non citizens illegally residing in California. California isn’t denying it just you

States administer the Medicare/aid program. It’s funded in part by the federal government. So sure as long as California and the other 13 states giving illegal immigrants healthcare are willing to forego their federal money it’s their choice. Until that happens it isn’t.

Medicaid is funded by the federal government. If California or any other states chooses to expand Medicaid coverage to undocumented immigrants, it must be done using state funds, as dictated by federal law, so states have been paying for it using their own funds.
