Yes the service directed towards the LGBTQ support is being defunded and removed. That is not a lie. Just because the number still exists and other services provided does not mean there won't be an impact on the LGBTQ community. Of course there will be an impact and it won't be on the positive side

988 serves all people suffering with mental health issues and to better serve the most at risk people of suicide... veterans, lgbtq, native americans, they have made a specialized options to pair them with counselors more qualified to help.

Then have them call a 988 number for mentally confused people....

They along with Vets have the highest suicide rates. So there is an obvious need. Some states provide a channel for native americans because they too have high suicide rates. Why would anybody support cutting efforts to better support?

Wasteful spending is my thought... but have you even posted a link to show why?... If he did this he had a good reason... maybe they were counseling youth on how to get a sex change... grooming if you will... that would go against his stated policy and against the wishes of the majority of Americans...

I have three issues with this:

1) if i were feeling suicidal and the number i called was a machine that told me to select from a menu, I'd likely hang up and eat a bullet immediately.

Id bet many suicides by seniors arecaused by the Social Security agency's "service" number.

2) A menu is sure to leave someone out, leading tnem to feel excluded and a step closer to the precipice.

3) By having special counselors for suicidal trans folk, it sends a message that trannies have a special reason to off themselves, a HORRIBLE message to send a confused young person.

Another well-meaning government idea to "help" that makes the problem worse.
