US President Donald Trump on Monday dismissed reports that the US military would stop using facilities in the northern Greek port city of Alexandroupoli due to the imminent end of the war in Ukraine.

During a press conference with French President Emmanuel Macron, Trump was asked by a reporter if the US planned to close a military base in Alexandroupoli, as reported by Greek media. Trump turned to US officials in the room for clarification.

After confirming that the report was inaccurate, Trump reiterated, “It’s not a correct story.”

Having lived in Greece for 22 years and being a dual citizen, Alexandropouli must be the smallest base where a few GIs were based.

The move is insignificant and of little strategic significance to the US, Greece or Turkey. It was a base founded on Bulgaria's threat to NATO in the Cold War, a long out-lived purpose .

Truly a no-brainer.

It's a Greek base, with, as you noted, a few US personnel.

And if the base was something substantial it would be on there.

I looked quickly for US Air Force bases, found a list and it didn't show up.
