trump shuts down military base in Greece

Ha, The US pushes NATO expansion for decades without any cost agreements (these only started under Obama) and then blame everyone else for this adventure costing too much?

NATO never had any cost agreements with the members, do any of you dunces really not know that? It was Obama who suggested they consider a % of GDP, but there never was any obligation on any member in terms of dollars.
Actually batondidnt

NaTO treaty has payment obligations

With that said my post has nothing to do with nato or the treaty

If liberals are crying it is certain that Trump is doing something right. Funny how the same loons are whining about this while constantly screaming we need to cut defense spending. Hypocrites and liars, the lot of them.

It doesn't it has a guideline, not an obligation and that was only introduced in 2006, so it was GWB not Obama - my mistake. If the US paid more then that was it's choice, nobody told the US how much to spend and just because the US wanted to spend lavishly does not obligate every other member to match that.

It is the US policy since the mid 90s to expand NATO eastwards into the former Soviet states, that's was the US driving that.

We need every base! Everyone!! Oh, the humanity!!!
The U.S. has 38 bases in Europe several of which are closer to the Ukraine than the one in Greece.

Greece itself is closing lots of its bases--127 recently with more to come as reported in my Post #42--and I don't think it will miss the Americans closing one of theirs.

Greece had about 4 American bases in the past. They are all closed except for a few which are radar stations and Souda Bay, a Navy station with an airport for training of Greek pilots and the case of war.

That's pretty much it. I know this since I lived in Greece for 22 years.

direct funding is required by the treaty, you are talking about the 2 percent of GDP indirect funding which is what was set up in 2014, for them to fund their own military. What is NATO and what does it cost to be a member? | USAFacts

Cool, I have no problem with countries joining NATO, so long as they pay. That has nothing to do with my comment about US base in Greece

trump keeps rolling over for Putin. This base is a key for US support to NATO. trump is sending a signal to Europe that the US is becoming more aligned with Russia and Putin. The hawks in the GOP better wake up. trump is slowing becoming a Russia ally. Between Putin and Erdogan, trump is being given the "How to" become a Dictator lesson. I fully expect trump to walk away from NATO, giving Putin the green light to attack more democracies on his border.
Just today the Shitler! regime voted with russia, north korea and belarus to condemn Ukraine's invasion of russia three years ago.

So much failing...

voted where?

The UN voted against a Trump admin resolution to end the war in Ukraine.https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2025/feb/24/un-rejecting-us-resolution-urges-end-ukraine-war-without-noting/

This body simply wants war

After a joint request from Putin and Erdogan.

This is seriously how foreign policy is gonna go now? We're just gonna do whatever the dictators want?

And today we voted against our nato allies and with Putin and NK on a UN resolution.

Can people not see how insane this is?

What is insane is democrats were for shutting down our air force base in Afghanistan that was a threat to Iran and now democrats are crying crocodile tears over shitting down a base in Greece.

Idiots
