Trump Says We've Never Needed NATO

This is once again another example of shameful conduct by the president. The USA is the only country to ever invoke Article 5 of the NATO treaty, following 9-11, and our allies showed up. Their militaries lost lives also.
I would put pretty good money on the bet that Trump couldn't even tell you what the initials N-A-T-O even STAND for.

This is a person who, when asked what the Declaration of Independence meant to him said, "it's a declaration of love and unity and respect".

This is a clueless, hopeless, pitiable, juvenile, dangerous sociopath.

National Association of Titties and Orgies?

That'd fit in with the whole Epstein thing he seems to have forgotten about.

Is that true?

NATO has engaged in limited, targeted military operations rather than traditional, full-scale wars against major powers. Key combat interventions involved forces in Yugoslavia (1990s), Afghanistan (2003–2021), and Libya (2011), often focused on
peacekeeping, airstrikes, or supporting UN-backed missions, rather than sustained territorial warfare.

While NATO was founded to counter the Soviet Union, it did not directly fight them during the Cold War.

If there had been no NATO, the US could have handled all the tasks NATO performed just as well. Did the formation of NATO help discourage Soviet aggression? Perhaps, but now the threat of communism has disappeared, unless you live in NYC, so perhaps it is time for the US to reevaluate NATO.

after conquering the Soviet Union and the middle East they would have either built a fleet or forced England to sign a peace deal. After that they would have had the wherewithal to build an invasion fleet for the US.

Would he have bothered? It would have taken years even if they tried and it would have been cost prohibitive. Conquering the middle east first would have been the best decision considering all they oil that was there. It wouldn't have been hard for his military.

They said if the Allies had have failed on D-Day it would have taken 6 to 12months or longer. This would have meant most of Europe would be under Russian control if they so chose. Below is the story of Operation Sea Lion, Germany's plan to invade England. They didn't consider it feasible.

Trump is right we dont need NATO they need us
I truly believe we NATO states all need each other. Have you ever objectively examined NATO's military structures and how effective defense can function? Everyone is networked, can share bases, information, reconnaissance, and joint, coordinated missile defense systems. The American missile defense systems wouldn't work without bases in NATO countries. There's extensive cooperation from which everyone benefits. Dissolving NATO only benefits our common adversaries. I've often read here that NATO has never actually fought. But that's precisely the point of NATO: no one dares to attack us. If the US were to leave NATO, Europe would have to massively rearm with nuclear weapons, which I certainly don't want. Even though there are undoubtedly shortcomings at the moment, we haven't yet regained the efficiency of the Cold War era. We need to cooperate more closely and also provide more financial support to the US if it's funding our security. I don't know why everyone suddenly has something against NATO; it has ensured security for us all since World War II. It all started here 10 years ago when Russian trolls began posting anti-NATO messages on social media, and then the discussion about NATO began among people who have never dealt with military or defense strategy issues. Don't throw NATO away. We would be wasting a great deal of expertise and wonderful friendships have developed among the soldiers. My father was a NATO officer, and as a child, it was such a fantastic experience for me to get to know the American, British, Norwegian, and Danish soldiers. The Western world would be a different place without NATO.

The U.S. has paid the LIONs Share of it. Trump is right to push them into doing their part. They have USED US TOO LONG.

I truly believe it won't be cheaper for the US without NATO, for anyone. Then everyone would have to fend for themselves. Everyone would pay more, and we'd all lose trillions in pointless, duplicated spending. How does a US defense system function without Canada and Europe? And it's not like the US is sending money to Europe for its soldiers. The US spends an insane amount of money on its military, but you can't just blame that on NATO. And it's simply not true that the rest of NATO just sits there and leaves everything to the US.
And yes, it's good that Trump is making the rest of NATO pull together and apparently strive to finally create a functioning force again, and also to open their wallets for it! I'm grateful to him for that! We've neglected defense for far too long!

The man goal of NATO is to stop a Russian invasion. They need us more than we need them. They need to step up and pay more for their defense and not depend on America so they can fund their socialist programs

The main goal back then, but not only the Russian one, was to defend against any threat, and for me it was always a big deal. As a soldier, I would have given my life for this cause at any time; I was aware of that as a tank soldier. I would have been on the front lines, probably in a nuclear war. My 6th Panzergrenadier Division was presumably facing 14 tactical nuclear strikes. And I would have fought for the freedom of the USA, wouldn't I? And now it's time for Western countries to rediscover their shared ideals and stand together.

NATO Needs to step more. Instead they took advantage of us for years to fund their social programs

Trump just got through insulting our former allies, and their militaries, at Davos.

There was a time when what he said would have been shocking.

The social welfare systems in NATO member states vary considerably. In Turkey, a very important NATO ally, social standards are not truly socialist. And most European countries are not socialist either. In Germany, little remains of our social democracy. It's just expensive and inefficient, and those who contribute receive little. And yes! The rest of NATO must do more!

The Cold War is over. You need to move on to the present, not live in the past. NATO has outlived its purpose.

Well then, it doesn't look like it would be any big deal if NATO was disbanded, all those European bases were closed, and the troops brought home, huh?

Should have been done decades ago.

You keep saying lots of pointless babble.

He's just an old man yelling at clouds.

Heavy water builds thermonuclear devices. You need a nuclear device to set them off.

They were following the wrong branch.

And the head of their program may have been actively sabotaging it.
