Trump said: ‘A Lot of People Are Saying Maybe We'd Like a Dictator'

You really think trump is going to try to become a dictator? Do you REALLY think that?

This is literally what you see in the most despotic countries. Literally. I certainly know that people can be craven (especially in DC, holy shit) but this just doesn't happen here. And the way they go around the table, taking turns laying their rhetorical flowers before him. They kmow what he is. Difficult to even digest.

At no point did trump tease the notion of the united states becoming a dictatorship. He was musing of other people's ideas, but he even said he doesn't want that
He'll only be a dictator if Americans force him to be one.

He will never be a dictator, its not something im even concerned with as I think the chances of it ever being an issue are zero.

Trump throws things out there and sees what reactions he gets. He knows what he's doing.

That you're trying to pretend that Trump is an idiot is rather telling.

The republican party is so weak today and Trump knows that. Thus he wants to control America as he does the republicans. Notice how they all kowtow to him. No balls, no brains, no values is the new republican - many online here too.

At most, I think he throws things out to get the left razzed. Surely nobody seriously thinks hes making moves toward dictatorship...do they?

Also, if was the left who kept saying he was an idiot all throughout his first presidency. Now hes some sort of psychological mastermind?

I think he does things to goad the left. Is that really presidential? Do you want a guy who sits up all night thinking about how he can anger some Americans while entertaining others? Or do you want a guy who's trying to run the country?

Is he moving towards a dictatorship?

It's hard to tell what goes on in the mind of a guy like Trump. What sort of person acts like a total child.

The problem is, if he's not doing it deliberately, then he's dangerous because he doesn't know what he's doing. If he is doing it deliberately, then he's dangerous.

Here's what I think. Trump has been the "dictator" of his own companies for a long time. Surrounded by yes people, doing whatever he wants. He wants that same thing. He wants to lower interest rates to make the US more competitive. He looks at China which devalues its currency and says "I want to do that". He doesn't care the impact it has on people in the US, that inflation would rise, it would reduce people's savings. He only sees it from his point of view, so he goes for it.

That he's literally setting up someone else to move in as dictator means nothing to him. He doesn't care. He only cares about himself.

Talking about dictators, talking about gerrymandering, talking about voting machines, it's all getting into the heads of people, and people are saying "there's no democracy here", and that is super dangerous.

No, I dont think its very presidential. Ive made ot known in past postings, its one of the things I dont like about him. He's just not very presidential.

Sure, ill give you that, but I dont think hes working toward dictatorship though.

I just don't think its actually even on his mind as an option.

But whether he's doing it deliberately or not, he's enabling dictatorship in the US.

If you want to take the US to war, you have to prepare the people for it, get them to accept it.
If you want to reduce democratic power you do the same thing. And that's what Trump is doing.

He attacked the Federal Reserve, hurling insults trying to get Powell to step down.
Then he fired Lisa Cook.

The Federal Reserve is supposed to be independent, and Trump doesn't care.

Trump doesn't listen to the court, Trump basically thinks his job is to do whatever he wants.

He might not think he wants to be dictator, but he's always been a dictator in the business world, and it's all he knows.

Your party got caught creating a dictatorship.

Thank God for Trump.

Yeah, but you have to consider the circumstances. First off, the federal reserve isnt even supposed to exist, but it does.

As far as the courts, well, they have been overstepping lately. I wasnt aware that district courts were allowed to over rule the executive branch.

Personally, I just think its all nothing. Its not going to happen. Not something to even worry about.

But it does exist because it's a sensible way of running the country.

Well, I'm sure all the other countries that have had dictators thought it wouldn't happen either.

Ever wondered why the US never had dictators when most of the rest of the Americas (aside from Canada) did?

It was because there was no feeling that democracy was ingrained within the country. The US is losing that feeling right now.

Yep.

I don't use the word, but those who mockingly dismiss the word are also choosing to ignore that we're literally in a place we've never been.

What the flock will not admit is that there are Americans across the political spectrum, including several Republicans who worked directly for him, who are sounding every alarm that they can.

Even his current Vice President, Secretary of State and HHS Secretary did it.
