Trump removes Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook from office, citing fraud allegations

My last rebuttal was to Mariner's statement that my response made me be in a cult. :) (Speaking of strawmen. LOL.)
When you declare that anyone who disagrees with your leader must hate America, it does indeed sound like you’re in a cult.

I’ll stand by that statement.

I don’t think attacking the independence of the federal reserve board is good. Does that mean I hate America?

MAGA has a habit of labeling something a lie solely out of convenience. It’s their SOP.
Think very hard; were that said to you, would you say the party listened or cared what you said?

This is quite the strawman you’ve created. The problem is that you lack the ability to listen to those who disagree with you.

Attacking the independence of the Federal Reserve Board is bad for the country.
The independence ruled from the real oligarchy in Europe.

Think very hard; were that said to you, would you say the party listened or cared what you said?
I wouldn’t make any inference one way or the other based on that statement.

What religion talks as Foxfyre talks?
This country always has just one president. When you despise the president, many assume you hate the country.

Did you guys hate the country when Biden was president?

Did Trump hate the country when Obama was president?

That’s a silly assumption. I can’t believe I have to explain it to you, but one can believe that the president is severely misguided and doing harm to the country.

Trump announced on August 25, 2025, that he fired Fed Governor Lisa Cook over allegations of mortgage fraud and "gross negligence." However, Cook and her attorney have strongly disputed Trump's authority to do so, asserting that under federal law, Federal Reserve governors serve fixed terms and can only be removed by the president "for cause," a standard that requires proven misconduct or failure to perform duties. Cook plans to sue Trump to block the removal and remain in her position. This legal challenge may escalate through the courts, potentially to the Supreme Court, as no president has previously attempted to dismiss a Fed governor in this manner.

Legal experts and the Fed itself highlight that removal of governors is protected by statutes ensuring their independence from political interference. The allegations against Cook concern claims of mortgage residency fraud before her appointment, which have not led to formal charges.

In summary:

Trump publicly stated he removed Cook for alleged mortgage fraud.

Cook denies wrongdoing and says Trump lacks legal authority to fire her.

Federal law indicates a Fed governor can only be removed for cause, and cause must be legally substantiated.

Cook will sue to challenge the firing.

The case is unprecedented and likely to involve judicial review on presidential authority over the Fed.

Therefore, while Trump declared Cook removed, whether he actually has the legal power to do so remains unresolved and under active legal dispute. Cook is both asserting her right to stay and pursuing a lawsuit against Trump for wrongful termination. finance.yahoo+5

Regarding Trump’s authority to remove a Federal Reserve governor: The Federal Reserve Act limits presidential removal to "for cause," which is legally interpreted as serious misconduct or failure to perform duties, and this standard is to protect the Fed's independence. This distinguishes the removal from typical at-will dismissals seen in other positions.

As for whether Cook can sue Trump: Yes, she has already declared intentions and begun legal action to contest the firing, arguing that the removal is illegal and beyond the president's authority without proper cause proven in court. cnbc+3

Trump has a deep pathology about being able to admit he was wrong. It's closely tied to his pathological fixation on winning. If you were wrong the otherwise was right, which means they won and you lost. It can't happen. Even if you look like a moron, never admit it. Deny. Change the subject. Attack. That's how MAGA handles being wrong.

Trump does have a problem admitting when he has been wrong. That doesn't mean that all that support him have the same problem.

Or maybe young people have seen how Republican policies are well tailored to **** them over.

Sure, for the first time in the history of the world, 15-year old's have wised up. You run with that. The more likely scenario is that there is a large group of our society that has never grown up.

So basically you think anyone who disagrees with Trump hates the country.

I don't think they hate the country, I just think they are misled. I am not saying they should agree with everything he says or does, but disagreeing with everything he says or does is equally as problematic. For some reason, TDS folks are unable to see that.

Show many any post, at any time, at any year I've been on USMB in which I EVER said anyone who disagrees with my (or any other leader) must hate America.

It's that kind of disconnect that puts you far more into a cult than any MAGA will ever be.

I did not. I learned it over a period of over 35 years whipping Democrats.
When I started posting here, others warned me regarding replying to them.... I gave the clown the benefit of the doubt. They were right.

Did you guys hate the country when Biden was president?
Speaking for myself, of course not. I however am not democrats and kept mindful how much they backed Biden, even though corrupt and weak of mind.

We republicans must learn how they talk, since they are well trained by the DNC and mirror their tactics. Check their sentence structure, think hard, use their tactics.
