Trump putting tariffs on drugs

Actually, tarrifs on drugs is not such a bad thing. Imported drugs have been shown to have higher levels of contaminants (toxic metals, arsenic, and etc) than domestically produced drugs. Especially when given to children the effects can be disastrous.

And these contaminants also have a strong link for being a culprit in triggering autism in children.
Meaning it could be that these vaccines, made in India are not harmful in themselves, but the contamination and poor controls over their manufacture are responsible for the autism epidemic.

So....I'd let this one alone.

I have no issue with encouraging the manufacturing of prescription drugs in the US. What I find unacceptable is the sudden imposition of a major tariff, or rather a tax, on those drugs. Trump could have encouraged domestic manufacturing of these drugs by tax breaks or grants with targeted tariffs on certain drugs. A shotgun approach does nobody any good.

We can make these things domestically....it's just expensive and sometimes impossible due to EPA regulations. (E.G., Tamiflu is made in pure nitrogen/helium atmosphere because it involves volatile chemistry....at least two production plants (outside US) have exploded already)

This stuff is possible to be made here but it's going to cost more because of safeguards and purity standards....not just because labor is more expensive. Big pharma is against it but....
