The reason it’s unhelpful in this case is that it legitimizes Democrats’ talking point that Republicans could end this shutdown any time they want to. And that could make it harder for Republicans to shake the blame they’ve been saddled with.

It’s been pretty remarkable how much Americans have continued to blame Republicans more than Democrats for the shutdown, despite it being Democrats who are seeking the concession (i.e. an extension of the enhanced Obamacare subsidies). A Washington Post-ABC News poll released Thursday showed 45% of Americans mainly blamed Trump and the GOP, versus 33% who held Democrats responsible.

Yes, the repubs could get rid of the filibuster. But they won't. Do they realize they are losing in their shutdown efforts? They have control of the WH, the Senate, and the House. They cannot blame the Dems, when the Dems control nothing. They would rather inflict pain on millions of Americans that compromise on ACA subsidies. Everyone know trump and his cronies want to kill the ACA. The GOP House is becoming a stain on American history. They are not working, they are vacationing at home And they think they can win in 2026? These weeks of the GOP House sitting on their hands are going to be great campaign ads for Dems.

Oh, did I leave out that repubs in Congress are getting paid while federal employees go without?

Theyre going to need lots of advertising.
THe Democrat brand is a toxic ship with no rudder.
As a
cronie,
i can only say,
we dont have to do anything, just stand back and watch the tangle.

We dont want to interfere with that dark magic

He must have seen some polling numbers.

He wouldn't give two shits otherwise.
He might just be tired of the unnecessary pain the Dems are causing with their shutdown.

You seem to not understand anything but what your cult tells. The republicans as crazy as they are have put forth numerous proposals that democrats have rejected. The republicans hold a slight majority in the senate but they need democrats ( who are not only crazier but dumb) to help get the sixty votes needed.
The democrats have claimed that shutting down the country is their leverage. They want 1.5 Trillion added to the CR to agree. Part of that is to fund subsidies to the ACA that they agreed should sunset but now do not want to stand by their word. They also want NPR funded. They want even more crazy ideas funded like cooking classes for transgender in Hatai. Most smart Americans realize that we can not keep adding to the national debt. Most smart Americans realize that the democrats needed to fix ACA when independent think tanks shouted that it would increase healthcare costs. But democrats wanted only to throw more money at the problem instead of having the necessary talks to fix the problem.
To blame the republicans is just plain stupid. If you keep trying to get an opponent to compromise and they do not want to compromise you can not blame the ones trying to compromise. The democrats that claim they care about people have shown they only care about votes.

Nuking the Filibuster for nominations was one thing. Going down the slippery slope of nuking it for budgets and general legislation is a whole different animal.

They could change the rule for Continuing Resolutions only.

Dems control the senate because they have the fillibuster

But it would be a mistake to change the rules now

And then the dems change the rules for X, citing the change by the Repubs.

Much better to have the Dems go ahead and inflict their max pain, until a few of them come to their senses and pass the CR.

15th post
What I realize is it takes 60 votes to pass a CR in the Senate and the Republicans do not control 60 seats. I also know Schumer and the Democrats voted for these type of CR during the Biden presidency 13 times but now they won’t. Schumer and the Democrats could end this shutdown anytime they wanted but they refuse.

You don't think the Dems if they gain power back won't change things anyway?

They threw everything they could at Trump in 2024 and still lost. Their gloves are off 2026 and going forward.

Trump is making a mistake.
We should never give into hostage takers, because it will encourage them to do it again.
The Democrats are screwing over everyone.
They should lose more seats in the midterm elections.
