Soetoro considered himself to be a "citizen of the World," which played well overseas, especially in Leftist havens like Western Europe. But implicitly, his posture was disparaging of HIS OWN COUNTRY, which un-brainwashed Americans found revolting.
Trump is a purely American phenomenon. He is brash, crude, jingoistic, and scatter-brained. He lacks the polish that is normally required to any sort of executive, let alone the President of the ******* United States of America.
He won the 2016 election because the Democrat party found one of the few humans in the United States who was even more repulsive than Trump.
With all of Trump's faults and shortcomings, very few people who voted for him would like a chance for a "do-over." He remains a far better choice than the alternative. And "we" don't particularly give a **** how he is perceived overseas. I worked for a European company before I retired, and my peers in Germany were totally infatuated with Soetoro, although none of them could say exactly why. They had no idea what any of his policies were, or whether those policies were good or bad for the U.S. They just thought it was cool that "we" had elected an African American.
