And that started off in 1898 with the US attacking Spain and it's colonies, until today Iran. The American population never had a say in this - so why should I be anti-American??

That is an unreasonably harsh judgement. All nations seek to advance their interests. Indeed, that is the POINT of nations, to protect their citizens and to try to serve or advance their interests.
