The U.S. General Services Administration, or GSA, is the federal agency responsible for contracts and procurement as they relate to the government’s real estate, IT, products, and equipment, which includes vehicles. According to The Verge, there are several hundred charging stations managed by the GSA, which amounts to roughly 8,000 charging ports across the country. And they now they’re going to be turned off.

“As GSA has worked to align with the current administration, we have received direction that all GSA owned charging stations are not mission critical,” said an agency email viewed by The Verge. “Neither Government Owned Vehicles nor Privately Owned Vehicles will be able to charge at these charging stations once they’re out of service.”

It was probably a green initiative thing for the GS employees who could afford an EV.

As in if you are a GS-13+ and drive your EV vehicle to work and the .gov to pays for your "fuel" (while you steal from the taxpayer) yet the GS-7 clerk has to drive their economy-gasser in and pay for their fuel.

Reminds me of union plants back in the day that made "rice burners" park in the "lower 40" parking lot.

It’s an environmentally and ethically sound move.

Electric cars are made from parts and materials primarily derived from the worst kind of slave labor. The mining of their needed minerals is highly destructive to the environment.

Trump may be the greenest president in history!

I suspect that his boy Musk will tell him, "Hey, I made most of those electric cars!" and we'll see a reversal soon.

Why would you suspect that?

My guess is that Mr. Musk sees the writing on the wall, and is already on his way to marketing Tesla 2.0, with a revolutionary new internal combustion engine.

Remember, the fellow is very innovative.

Musk isn't as smart as you think he is..

Also, given that people are calling Teslas "Swasticars" now, it really doesn't matter how he markets them.

As far as I can remember, President Trump has been very straightforward with Musk about his feelings regarding the EV's. Mentioned it frequently in his rallies.

Yet where is Musk now?

Boer Constrictor

Elon got even with the GreenHeads for being in the same cult that turned his native country over to savages.

If the government owns a fleet (or fleets) of EV's, then these chargers will surely be kept on line. If government employees are using their own EV's on government bidness, it is entirely appropriate to charge them at work - although petty fraud would be inevitable.

I would like a little more information on this.

Think about the Leftist school districts that have gone to EV school buses - assuming there are some. THey would have to have charging infrastructure, eh?

Don’t agree with employees charging their private EV’s on the governments dime.

Keep the chargers in place and meter them like commercial charging stations, turn them into a revenue stream.

Government EVs need chargers available.

Yep he's giving up on all electrics.... Tesla will either begin to manufacture hydrogen combustion engines or put out a high quality hybrid. You are correct the day and age of the all-electric has seen its peak and will be heading down from here. He knows this.

Best to go cautiously with this one as the news story that has gone viral on the internet and social media is most likely fake news. So far there is no credible evidence Trump ordered any EV chargers removed anywhere.

EV's aren't going away. Sales keep going up and are projected to rise.

The problem - IMHO - are those with the all or nothing mind set. EV's have their uses and are a good transportation option depending on the situation. For example my car is the larger "touring" car we take on road trips. Her's is a Mazda 3 used for her short commute and running errands. We're actually a good match for her car being an EV.d

We probably won't, but that's more a design thing. Eventually EV's will have easily replaceable battery units. Todays models use batteries build into the frame and are hard to replace. I think over time engineers will overcome this design flaw.

I don't think they're going away either but I also don't think they're going to replace hydrocarbon ICE's ... This is just the laws of physics talking.

I'm fairly certain what you will see is a shift towards hydrogen powered hybrids.

It's the first option that has all the bells and whistles needed to survive and become a true replacement for the hydrocarbon ICE.

All electrics are good for certain things I have one myself. It does all the local stuff but that's all it's good for.
