"The hand-off had an immediate effect. Wednesday afternoon one of the important CDC pages that tracked changes over time in how many hospital beds in the nation are occupied by COVID-19 patients ceased working. The CDC confirmed the page's disappearance was a consequence of the switch."

Dr. Robert Redfield, CDC director, indicated the change would not be detrimental.

The Times reports, "The Health and Human Services database that will receive new information is not open to the public, which could affect the work of scores of researchers, modelers and health officials who rely on C.D.C. data to make projections and crucial decisions."

What does this mean exactly? It means that Trump -- who tries very hard to ignore the virus pandemic that has killed over 140,000 Americans -- will control the information Americans get concerning the pandemic that is affecting everyone in the country in one form or another.

Previously public data has already disappeared from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s website.

Trump may benefit in the short term from the disappearance of virus data, but in the long term this is putting another nail in the coffin of Trump's chances for reelection. Hiding key information from Americans is not the way to win elections, and it is extremely likely that he will have to back down again and allow the free flow of coronavirus information.
