Trump is deliberately tanking the economy!

LOL! 😆
Gonna pick one of these:
Okay, Grand Beach. Let's see what it is there right now.

😆

Woodbine Beach was within walking distance of our house in Toronto.

There was also Bluffer's Park Beach, Balmy Beach, Kew Beach,

Vancouver and Toronto are both famous for their beaches. There's even a nude beach on one of the Toronto Islands.

There are great beaches all along the shores of the Great Lakes. Grand Bend, Point Pelee, Port Dover Beach. This is Grand Bend. Memories of my misspent youth, as well as a 4" gash in my head, from a weekend my best friend dubbed "the worst weekend of my entire life", that years later became "remember our camping trip to Grand Bend?" and we laughed and laughed.

Trump hasn't brought ANYTHING back. His last trade war cost you 200,000 manufacturing jobs and set manufacturing back to 2009 levels.

Off shoring continued unabated throughout Trump's Presidency.

Joe Biden is the guy who brought microchip production back to the USA.

Prices were not "skyrocketing". The post pandemic inflation was WORLDWIDE, fool. The USA and Canada, had some of the LOWEST inflation in the world. We're isolating our economies from Trump and his tariff's.

A LOT of your inflation had to do with Trump, and the fallout from his bullshit trade wars in the first term.

The rest of the world is neither sulking nor whining, asshole. We're cutting YOU off at the knees, economically, which is why your markets are tanking. Nobody is going to be investing in your authoritarian dictatorship, or as long as you're allied with Putin, the Saudis, and North Korea.
Lies. Oddly just what China would say, too. :dunno:

Yeah, I don't think so.

I've seen a lot of titles of blogs and videos stating that claim, and I don't think that's what's happening. The weird thing here is that what he is doing is going to damage, at least in the short term, two numbers that are near and dear to his heart: The GDP and the stock market.

A couple of things happened in that interview with Maria Bartiromo that's getting so much attention, the one in which skirted around talk of recession but still defended one if it happens:

First, he looked more relaxed than normal because he knew he was on friendly territory. And second, that made him comfortable enough to actually give an answer that is defensible: He's trying to "bring wealth back to America" by trying to re-focus as much production and distribution back here as possible. I sure as hell don't like the way he's doing this, and I sure as hell don't know if it will work, but at least he was calm enough to make sense.

Here's my theory (with absolutely no proof to back it up): He has touched on this stuff in the past, but not like this. I think someone got to him, someone he trusts, and filled in all the details and tactics for him. So while he and his oligarchs stand to really make out here, it could be argued that the actual goal is sound. The execution? Yeah, we'll see. This is a sloppy mess. But I don't have to like it.

We’re Already Seeing Signs That Trump Is Tanking the Economy

Trump is Anti-Globalist and America First. If you understand that, you understand his policies. Globalists in both the GOP and Dim Parties gave us NAFTA in the 1990's which basically destroyed U.S. Manufacturing.

Europe, China, and Canada **** us with unfair tariffs to protect their economies. Trump is trying to bring manufacturing back to the U.S. Higher tariffs are the best way to make it happen. Will it cause short term pain? Maybe. But the end goal is worth it imho.

Here's the thing.

The reason textiles, as an example, moved offshore is because of labor costs. It is economically more sensible to pay someone a dollar a day to make T-shirts overseas than it is to pay someone $25 an hour to make them in the US.

No tariffs are going to bring textiles back to America.

Everyone wins with a free trade system. A dollar a day is a living wage in Bangladesh and we all get cheap clothing.

Trump is an idiot.

"The New Republic" convinced left wing fools that Kamala would win the election. Did y'all fools think the left wing blog would become fair and balanced all of a sudden? You left wing idiots believe only what you want to hear.

Except there is no such thing as "free trade." Canada, as an example, puts 200% tariffs on our dairy products to protect their farmers. We are fucked by China, the EU, and Canada with tariffs. Even an idiot like you should understand this.

Key Trade Issues & Disputes

  1. Dairy Industry – The U.S. has long argued that Canada's supply management system (which controls dairy production and pricing) limits American dairy exports. The USMCA addressed some of this by granting U.S. farmers more access to Canada’s market, but disputes continue.
  2. Softwood Lumber – A long-standing issue where the U.S. claims that Canada unfairly subsidizes its lumber industry, allowing Canadian companies to sell at lower prices in the U.S. The U.S. has placed tariffs on Canadian softwood lumber multiple times.
  3. Automobile Manufacturing – Under USMCA, stricter rules require more North American-made parts in vehicles. The U.S. has sometimes accused Canada (and Mexico) of benefiting disproportionately due to government incentives.
  4. Energy & Pipelines – Canada supplies a large portion of U.S. oil and natural gas, but disputes have emerged over pipelines like Keystone XL, which the U.S. canceled, affecting Canadian oil exports.
  5. Buy American Policies – The U.S. sometimes enforces "Buy American" rules that limit Canadian companies from bidding on U.S. government contracts, leading to tensions.

The Bigger Picture

  • The U.S. enjoys a trade surplus in services with Canada, meaning American companies sell more services to Canada than they buy.
  • Canada is the largest export market for U.S. goods, meaning millions of American jobs rely on trade with Canada.
  • While disputes exist, both economies benefit greatly from the trade partnership.

He's certainly looking at this from the perspective of, say, the 1980's. And the way he's doing it -- ham-handed, broad, punitive tariffs with threats, insults and mockery sprinkled in -- is just grotesque. He's making this tougher than it should be by angering our former allies and friends.

I think the bet here is that America still has enough international influence and competitive advantage to force this through. And there certainly could be something I'm not seeing yet. I dunno.

It was a relief to at least understand (I think) what he's trying to do. That was refreshing.

Reciprocal tariffs will work like gas wars did. I like it! :yes_text12:

Textiles are coming back, boy! Those aren't that long gone.
