The ACA pays a subsidy to the health insurance companies thanks to the "Inflation Reduction Act". This is one of the reasons for the first Chuck Schumer shutdown last year.<~~~~~~~~~~>
Indeed, didn't Barry tell the American people that they wouldn't pay a dime extra and they could keep their doctors.
"In his health-care speech last night, President Obama promised the world, but didn’t explain how he would pay for it. It was all sizzle, no substance. Even media that often cheerlead for Obama found his claims hard to swallow.
Obama claimed that his proposals won’t add “one dime to the deficit now or in the future.” But as the Associated Press noted, his proposals “would drive up the deficit by billions of dollars.” The Washington Post, which endorsed Obama and hasn’t endorsed a Republican for President since 1952, noted that under the House version of Obamacare, “the expanded coverage would add more than $1 trillion to the deficit.”

One plan charges health insurance premiums $1052/mo. for base coverage. The ACA covers low income patients by providing these subsidies while the low income patient only has to pay $32/mo. A good deal for the patient but a tremendous rip-off to the taxpayer. Roughly $297 billion per year. If you wonder where all of our money is going.....this is one reason thanks to Barack Obama and the Democrats who voted for this expensive mess.
As of early 2025, a record-high
24.3 million people are enrolled in health insurance plans through the Affordable Care Act (ACA) Marketplaces. Combined with ACA Medicaid expansion, roughly 44 million people were covered in 2024, representing about 1 in 6 non-elderly Americans. Marketplace enrollment alone has more than doubled since 2020, driven by enhanced subsidies.
Key 2025 ACA Enrollment Details:
These figures represent a significant expansion of coverage, with the uninsured rate in the US falling from 14.4% in 2013 to 7.9% in 2023
- Total Enrollment: Nearly 24 million people selected plans for 2025, marking a record high for the fourth consecutive year.
- Sign-up Breakdown: In 2025, 2.3 million new consumers signed up, while 14.4 million existing consumers returned or were re-enrolled.
- Top State Enrollments: Florida (4.7M), Texas (3.9M), and California (1.9M) led in enrollment for 2025.
- Subsidies: The high enrollment is largely due to enhanced subsidies extended through 2025 by the Inflation Reduction Act.
- Medicaid Expansion: Beyond the marketplace, millions more are covered through Medicaid expansion, which has been adopted by 40 states and the District of Columbia.
