New Jersey Gov. Mikie Sherrill’s attempt to gain access to a Newark immigrant detention center is being slammed as a “political stunt” as a standoff between federal agents and anti-ICE protesters took hold outside the facility.

Tensions rose both in and outside Delaney Hall over the weekend, as a hunger and labor strike among inmates carried on for a fourth day.

“Governor Sherrill’s visit to Delaney Hall is nothing more than a political stunt on Memorial Day when visitation is currently suspended due to riots outside the facility,” a Department of Homeland Security spokesperson told Fox News Digital.

“Yesterday, approximately 125 agitators surrounded Delaney Hall Detention Facility, many carrying anti-ICE signs and Antifa flags. They formed a human chain around entrances to the facility and set up barricades, blocking all entries and exits.”

Sherrill was denied access to the detention center Monday after several of her Garden State Democratic colleagues, including Sen. Andy Kim and Rep. Rob Menendez, toured the facility over the weekend.

Video circulating on social media shows Sherrill standing outside a locked gate topped with razor wire as a large group of protesters chant, “Let Sherrill in!”

Footage captured outside the facility shows several demonstrators defiantly seated side by side in an attempt to block the detention center’s main roadway, and a larger group squaring off with agents and chanting, “No more ICE!”

It was not immediately known if any arrests were made.

Comment:
Hunger strikes are dumb, and this one will not work.
The Demos are trying to resurrect their immigration issue.
They are attacking the sovereignty of our country.
We have the right to control our borders and our immigration.

If they were actually concerned about the conditions in the detention center, they would not be blocking the funding for ICE.

The governor of any state should be able to have access to these facilities within their states upon demand. That shouldn't be controversial.

Except for Bobby Sands, et al, I cannot think of a single hunger strike in modern history that was serious. Sooner or later, we will find out that the "hunger strike" consists of refusing "all food except . . . " You want to impress me, go on a hunger and thirst strike.

A few days without water or food (which contains water) and they'll start dropping like flies. I still won't agree with them staying in the U.S. after sneaking in, but I will respect them.

But we Democrats should not even be talking about this, and our politicians should not be expressing any concern for the lawbreakers being deported. that's what makes us look dumb. Obama did not do that. He deported so many illegals that the radicals started hating on him. Why would we rank-and-file Democrats align ourselves with people who hated on Obama?

Think of all the money we are saving not feeding them. Let em Bobby Sands themselves.
