The dismissals, handed out less than a week after Trump took office for his second term, appeared to violate federal law, the independent Council of the Inspectors General on Integrity and Efficiency said in a letter to the White House on Friday.

The law requires a president to give Congress “substantive rationale, including detailed and case specific reasons” for the dismissals 30 days in advance, the council said in the letter to Sergio Gor, White House personnel director.

Gor’s Friday email to the fired inspectors cited “changing priorities” as a reason for the firings, according to the letter, reported by Politico.

“At this point, we do not believe the actions taken are legally sufficient to dismiss Presidentially Appointed, Senate Confirmed Inspectors General,” said Council Chair Hannibal Ware, suggesting Gor consult with the White House counsel.

Very original. I've only seen that dozens of times.

If trump wants to pass a budget based on his priorities he should do so with the majorities he has in both houses of Congress. He doesn't have to issue an illegal spending freeze. Unless he doesn't think Repubs will go along with his priorities.

How much you wanna bet they're gone?

Well, if it wasn't true, you wouldn't see it anymore.

Yawn, for the third time--and you'll probably disregard this one too. You addressed it in your OP. The Trump admin said clearly that they would "operate within the law." Your negative speculation does not negate what they have stated.

Not without cause, an explanation to Congress of the cause, and a 30 day notice.

You'll have to pardon me for dismissing their rationale since the admin has already broken at least two laws in the first week and..............well..........we know trump has a strained (to be kind) relationship with the law.

Failure to perform the job satisfactorily is legal cause. He can remove them and pay them for thirty days. LMAO, look at the moron that has backed Biden technicalities for four years whine when the tables are turned. Run along junior, your tears are wonderful.

Trump Fires at Least 12 Inspectors General in Late-Night Purge

President Trump fired at least 12 inspectors general late on Friday night, three people with knowledge of the matter said, capping a week of dramatic shake-ups of the federal government with a purge of independent watchdog officials created by Congress to root out abuse and illegality within federal agencies.

The move capped a week of major shake-ups of the federal bureaucracy focused on loyalty to the president, three people with knowledge of the matter said

Two people with knowledge of the matter said on Friday night that 17 inspectors general had been terminated; a third person said on Saturday morning that the figure was at least twelve. A White House spokesman would not comment for the record, and did not respond to a request for a list of those who had been terminated.

Presidents have the prerogative to dismiss inspectors general. However, they are supposed to give Congress 30 days’ notice before they do so and provide specific reasons. The White House spokesman did not respond to a question about why that law was not followed.

I can answer that. Anyone who thinks the trump admin will follow any law it doesn't feel like following isn't paying attention.

He did the same thing during trump 1.0 but not as many were fired. One was fired because he was looking in to Pompeo's misuse of staff, having them run errands for him.

But Don doesn't like Mike any longer. It's why he displayed his pettiness once again and took away Pompeo's security detail.

On the whole Don's behavior was restrained by folks like Gen. Kelly from being the impulsive, reckless, dangerous, cretin he is by nature. Nobody like Kelly is around any longer. We're seeing trump unbridled in being the corrupt prez he wants to be.

Can anyone think of a reason trump would remove all those IG's? People with the responsibility to be watchdogs over corruption in his admin.
What a frantic, conspiracy theory obsessed tirade.

I've seen it a thousand times, yet your TDS continues. Go and do some gardening, fix the lawn mower or something. You'll just make yourself ill otherwise.

Really pretty funny when demtards whine about “the law’.

Everything he's done so far has been straight out of the Project 2025 playbook. The President of the Heritage Society told donors that they were preparing a package of executive orders and legislation to be signed on Day One, and that's exactly what they're doing.

Ironically, the new IG act protecting IG's from arbitrarily being fired was enacted as a response to trump firing IG's in his first term.

The National Defense Authorization Act, which President Biden signed into law today, contains important reforms to protect inspectors general from opportunistic removal and replacement by the president. This appears to be the first statutory reform to address a problem with executive branch accountability that became salient during Donald Trump’s presidency.

Judge blocks Trump’s spending freeze

A federal judge has halted President Donald Trump’s freeze on federal aid programs, ruling that the courts need more time to consider the potentially far-reaching ramifications of his order.

Minutes before the directive from Trump’s budget office was to take effect Tuesday, U.S. District Judge Loren AliKhan blocked the Trump administration from implementing it for now.
