When the leading candidate withdraws after the primaries, it would be impossible to conduct 50 new state primaries so the state parties are given 7 days to select a replacement candidate. The state parties could have chosen a new candidate but since Harris was endorsed by Biden as his successor and the 200 million dollars in campaign funds collected would go to her campaign, she was the logical replacement which is why the states decided to go with her as Biden's replacement.

Don Trump will be charged in Arizona within a month for criminal assault on democracy because his campaign attorney Jenna Ellis has flipped and is cooperating with the prosecution on the fake electric charges. Trump was an unindicted co-conspirator before now he will be indicted with the rest of the anti-democracy Republicans in Arizona.

And if elected, he can not pardon himself since this is a state case. Although Trump may never spend a day in jail, he will be plagued with criminal and civil cases for the rest of his life. I guess that's some kind of punishment.
